  • Meguiars 7 Show Car Glaze vs m205 vs Ultimate polish

    Can someone explain the differences?

I use UP and know it has some cleaning, some polishing oils, some abrasives and some filler - result= prepped bodywork and covering up of bits you didnt quite achieve

These other two seem less forgiving? Ie they polish OR glaze , then you're on your own...

Is this true or are they the same as UP?

M205 is the pro version of UP. It has a more aggressive abrasive content, so it's capable of more and faster correction than UP. I've actually used both on the same job on darker colors-M205 with an aggressive pad for the first step, then UP on a soft pad to finish.
M07 is a pure polish, with no abrasive qualities. It adds some short-lived, but very wet-look gloss on newer paints, but it's very effective at moisturizing older single-stage lacquers and enamels both prior to and after polishing. I'm actually in the process of doing my annual show prep on my old, original-paint El Camino, using M07. I do a heavy application and let it soak in overnight, repeating as necessary until the paint feels saturated with the oils, then machine polish with the appropriate product, apply a final thin coat of M07 and wax. It's a ton of tiresome work to bring the gloss back on aging paint, but it's been rewarded with a trophy every time I enter.

Meguiar's makes two different kinds of polishes, "Pure Polishes" & "Cleaner/Polishes."

Pure Polishes are conditioners & oils which work to increase gloss, depth, and shine. The benefits of a pure polish are best seen on darker colors. Pure Polishes have no abrasive or defect removal ability. Pure Polishes are optional step, you don't have to do it.

Cleaner/Polishes contain abrasives and have the ability to remove defects by removing a microscopic amount of paint. (Pure Polishes don't have this ability). Cleaner/Polishes also feature the same ability to increase gloss, depth, and shine like a pure polish because they contain conditioners & oils as well. We find cleaner/polishes are used more often than pure polishes these days when applying to modern clear coats paints. The mild cleaning ability of the cleaner/polish work to further refine a modern clear coat paint finish, using providing better gloss. It should be noted best results with a cleaner/polish are obtained when used by machine.

Whether you are using a pure polish or cleaner/polish, they are recommended to be applied in small sections and should not be allowed to dry to paint. It is also recommended to follow an application of a polish with an application of a wax, to provide protection.
