  • 2015 Lexus Self Healing Clear

I have been detailing for many years and have a full stock of pads and different products.
I just bought a 2015 Lexus GS350 with "self healing" clear and am looking for advice on how to deal with it. It says no abrasives, do I treat it like any other clear?

Anyone have experience with this clear?

    Thanks in advance.

Re: 2015 Lexus Self Healing Clear

I haven't run across anyone really familiar with this paint. Anyone that seems to know anything knows what that short paragraph in the manual says, "no abrasives". Lexus doesn't hype the paint very much, but some folks say buckets of warm water and sunshine and the paint heals itself. Following their logic, if you bathed the car in warm water and it's gotten plenty of sunshine and the car is still covered in swirls, the paint doesn't work or the previous owner polished it off or by driving it through the free "touching" car wash at the Lexus dealership on a regular basis removed it.

So im guessing you can A) treat it like any other clear coat or B) only use a cleaner wax which would be less likely to remove this, undoubtedly, thin clear coat. I use method "B", but the car was in mint condition from the dealer (surprise, surprise) and I've used careful washing and cleaner wax on a Meguiar's black pad.

Now if if other folks have comments or experience with this paint, I too would love to hear them.

          Thanks David.
I was very surprised, that under close inspection with a swirl finder light, the car appears to be perfectly swirl free. I bought it with 6,800 miles on it and I would assume that it was not always cared for as it should be.
I have washed it twice with HOT water because thats what takes the bugs off, wonder if the temp of the water was beneficial ?

My plan is to clay it and just put some Blackfire sealant on it.

            XPEL's Ultimate uses a similar concept. https://youtu.be/T6oEgfdwUU0
