  • textured black plastic vw bumpers??

okay im into older (late 80-90's) vw's they all have black textured plastic bumpers and arches

ive tried MANY products over the years, they all seem to be some kind of greasy gel that you wipe over the trims, after a rain shower they part wash off and bad...and if it doesnt rain then all the dust sticks to the grease

what meguiars product would suit me best..btw the cars live out in the rain

The GCTD is not a real greasy type of product IMO. It looks more like a lotion to me.

I would apply it to the trim & such, and let it soak in for a while. Then a wipedown with a microfiber cloth would help to remove any excess residue.

As for the spray, I have not had the chance to use this product # yet, but I have used Accent Dressing in a spray can. AD claims to leave no oily reside behind, and I don't recall seeing it run after a rain.

I was going to post a picture of the Accent Dressing, but the image was not available. But I would bet that Exterior Trim Detailer spray would have some of the same characteristics as the AD spray.

Here's the link to Accent Dressing.

Edit: I don't remember Trim Detailer running down the sides after a rain storm either.

Hopefully, some others will post their experiences with these products so you can gage them better.

I have had good luck with both Gold Class Trim Detailer and #38 dressing. I have not had a problem with either. I prefer #38 over the GCTD as the #38 looks more natural to me ans its sold in a larger size. Also as RB said remove the excess with a cotton towel and you should be set.

#38 works great on my wife's CR-V. Holds up for a long while, at least a month or more. I re-apply about once a month just as part of washing the car but it doesn't need it. Just put it on and rub it in, do the whole car (bumpers, side trim, etc) and then come back with a terry rag and wipe off the excess. Has a nice soft sheen that makes it look new. Gets rid of the chalky look.
