  • Black jeep needs some help

    Howdy all!
New to the group but not new to cleaning, (to a degree) I have always had black cars they look good but man they are hard to keep nice. Little background I worked for a autobody shop for a few years then took over and did the wet Sandy cut and Polish side of it so I know slightly what I am doing however I feel like I don't after reading some things on here. I want to do a full job on my 4 door black jeep. It doesn't look bad by any means nothing deep or anything but it's not a luscious black like I know it can be. I was hoping someone could tell me exactly what to buy to get it perfect. I will be clay cleaning it I just need to know the polishes and waxes needed.
    Sorry for the long story!

    Hopefully someone can help!

What year is the Jeep and what polishes/waxes do you have?

Consider investing in the ultimate trio (compound polish and wax).

I have stuff but I'm gonna start over with all mcguires stuff. (Just mix and match for now) jeep is a 07 not sure how to upload photos or I would. I will be doing from start to finish wash soap, clay bar, compound, Polish, wax, maintenance stuff. Just don't know what kind.

I used the Meg's DA MF system: pads with the cleaner, D300 I think it is, and the finishing wax D302 (if I'm not mistaken). Results were a head-turner, really came out well.

Will that have everything I need besides the buffer clay and wash stuff? Like does it come in a kit?

Joe, I think D302 is the Microfiber Polishing compound. It has the higher number, due to a later release.

              D300 DA Microfiber Correction Compound
              D301 DA MICROFIBER FINISHING WAX
              D302 Detailer DA Microfiber Polish

Re: Black jeep needs some help

Since I just made a similar purchase, let me add a couple things that I learned.

A rotary buffer will get more aggressive as the velocity of the edge increases as the pad gets bigger.

That differs from the oscillating work of a DA buffers. The 5 inch microfiber pads, will be more aggressive and should reduce your work time for corrections. Since I am near Irvine, have been able to see this as I watched the difference between the 5 inch and the faster cutting 3 inch pads to remove RIDs. A smaller diameter pad, seems to transfer more of the tools work to a smaller ( more concentrated ) area. You may notice in the links I provided above that the microfiber cutting pad has less cushion pad than the microfiber polishing pad. That too transfers more work. What might not be as noticeable in the images in the links above, is that the nap ( fiber fingers ) also are different. This gives more cut to the cutting pad.

My thoughts is you might want to start your tool set with the 5 inch microfiber pads and plate.

The D301 Finishing Product has a mix of polish and wax ( carnuba and maybe a synth blend).
If you use the D302 Polishing product, it leaves a clean finish ready for the application of your choice of final product. You might choose Ultimate Wax ( polymer ) or Gold Class Carnuba.

Others with more experience will chime in and "apply a correction" if my thoughts are a little scratchy from inexperience.

Here are too good videos with Mike, Mike and Jason.

                    This shows recent enhancements.
Don't overlook Jason's reinforcing the tip on using good priming of the pad. It also introduces the D302 product and advantage for those wanting to choose their final product.

I guess I'm just not understanding. What are all the steps needed when using the microfiber system? From wash till finish of a full correction. Or the two products in the mf system is all it takes? I feel like there should be more steps.

Re: Black jeep needs some help

The DAMF system was designed for a production environment where fast correction and protecting is needed. A couple years ago, Meguiar's added the microfiber polish to let those choose to stay within the DAMF system.

Some professional detailers were asking for polish in the microfiber system as they were cutting with D300 and the microfiber cutting pad but finishing with foam and M205 as foam finishes better than microfiber.

Your other thread has a good set up. I posted up more info there in terms of pads.
