  • Help me maintain this no clear coat gem

I recently acquired a 1991 Porsche 944 S2 Cabrio. It's been literally decades since I've owned anything without clear coat. It's also one of the nicest cars I've ever owned and is deserving of proper care. It's all original paint except for one panel resprayed quite a long time ago due to a minor parking lot incident. It's in need of some swirl removal and polish and protectant.

I have a 10" and a 6" random orbit buffer with a foam pad for the 10 and wool pads for 6. These are both the cheap Walmart style units. If neither is appropriate, I'm not averse to working by hand since it's a pretty small car and has no roof.

Any suggestions for products and techniques are greatly appreciated. Thanks!

If it were mine, I would go with Ult Compound / Ult Polish / #7 / and Ultimate Liquid Wax, all the steps you should possibley need.

Thanks for the info. Oxidation isn't an issue. The car was always garaged and usually covered while in the garage. It's some minor swirls and protection I'm concerned with. Learning a lot on this site.

We would agree with Don this above combination should work great by hand or dual action polisher. The inexpensive orbitals usually do not offer the proper design to do a good job at removing swirls & scratches. The below link should help you out if you are thinking of getting another type of machine:

Beginners guide to the different types of paint polishing tools

We would also like to mention a clay bar would be recommended first after washing if needed to remove any bonded above surface contaminants. You also can try a test spot with our Ultimate Polish since it does have mild cleaning ability to see if this eliminates the swirls marks & scratches to your satisfaction. If it does not, Ultimate Compound would be our next recommendation.

Thanks for the info. I'll be investing in new product, materials and possibly a buffer. This site is great! So helpful
