  • First time waxing?

Hi everyone! I waxed the first half of my car today and through some trial and error, I think I learned a few mistakes.

First thing I did was I think I put it way too thick and after about 2 or 3 minutes, the wax did not even dry because I put so much so on the next regions, I put less. I did notice it to haze a little after 2-3 minutes and did the swipe and saw that it was coming off pretty easy, so I wiped it off with a microfiber.

    My question is:

    1) Is 2-3 minutes too much? What is the ideal time for a Collinite 845 Liquid Insulator Wax in a cool, shaded garage.

    2) If I mess up, is there any risks? Can I do it over again if I did not allow the wax to haze and I just wiped it off because I put too much and it wasn't hazing and I thought I messed up so I just wiped it off lol.

    Re: First time waxing?

This is a Meguiar's Wax site, not a Collinite wax site, however, drying time depends on several factors. Thickness, humidity, and brand formulations. If you were using a Meguiar's wax product, someone here on this site could probably tell you, to the exact second, what the drying time is. Just a guess here, but 2 to 3 minutes drying time for any wax I have used, is a little short for my liking.

I have found that when using Collinite 845 it takes longer because it is more oily feeling. And that wax goes on extremely thin as you found. Probably even more than that Megs UP. If you put 845 on too much it can just be a mess as you found out. I usually do the whole care when I do 845 and by time I am done it is ready to wipe off. But I live where it can be humid a lot, so takes longer to dry. I haven't used 845 to many times because I think UP is better on darker colors, so that is why I haven't.
