  • M205 and Ult Compound pad selection

I have light to moderate swirls. My last attempt to removed them I used M205 on a white LC thin pad. I am not sure if I didn't do enough passes or not the right product selection to clear them fully. I am already planning my next attempt. If I do not try the M205 on the white pad again. I wanted to see if anyone has used the following combinations and their comments on them.
    1) Ult compound with a white LC thin pad?
    2) M205 with a orange LC thin pad?

Also, if I start using one pad with either product mentioned can I switch products on the pad after a test spot, without cleaning it. I only have three pads of each color. So, if I have to clean it, I wouldn't have enough pads to finish the car.

I am working on Honda dark blue paint.

    Thanks

I'm not familiar with the pads you're using, but it's important to dedicate one pad per product used. You may need to pick up more pads.

What type of machine are you using? Did you use downward pressure when applying the product? You may need a fair amount of downward pressure to allow the product and pad to do their best work. Just make sure the pad keeps spinning at all times. If you press too hard and the pad stops rotating, just lighten up the pressure a little until it spins, even if it's just a slow spin.

How large an area did you polish? Best to keep your working area to 12"x 12" to best work the product. Check your results in a test spot to begin, then you will get an idea of what the paint needs in regard to correction. Continue that method around the car and you will have success.

I should have mentioned a couple of the things you pointed out.

I am using a PC7424xp. I am a beginner. So I am sure I have more to learn with it. I am working a larger area, maybe 16x16 or a little larger. To keep the size I use a microfiber towel, as long as it doesn't move to much.

Try the test spot idea on the smaller area I recommended and use downward pressure. Honda paint is noted as being soft although that's a generalisation and may not be the actual case with your car's paint. I'd use M205 with the smaller working area and more downward pressure and see what result that yields for you.

The test spot will allow you to 'dial in a process' before doing the whole car and ending up unsatisfied with an unsuccessful approach.

          Your pads are mixed up.

Orange is for cutting / white for polishing

Go to the lake country Web site and download their quick reference pdf on pad cutting properties.

I'm a major fan of m105/lc orange pad followed by m205/white pad followed by two thin coats of ultimate liquid wax.
