  • Paint thickness on mazda

I have a mazda 6 2014. The paint thickness is like 75-80 all around, except for where I had some job done, there it's like 150-200. I want to get all the swirl marks out. The guy said that he can only do a 1 stage polishing on the car because the paint is so thin. Where it's thicker, 150-200 he can do the 2 stage that removes virtually all swirl marks. Is the factory paint really so thin that you can't give the car a good compounding and polish? Most people that cares about their cars a lot give them good polishes and compounds yearly and it's fine. Makes no sense to me if factory paint is too thin for that?!

He told me most new cars are at 100 or so.

Would really appreciate a response. Is really 75-80 microns so thin that you can only do a 1 stage correction once and then thats it?!?!? or is he just trying to up sell me a coating? thanks

That is thin & such a new car. I'm guessing someone has gone crazy constantly cutting the clear coat, instead of changing there washing techniques.

Well no. That's how it came from the factory. Mazda is known to have thin paint.
However, 75-ish, is that really so thin that you can only correct swirl marks once and then that's it? That's the big question, or can you still remove swirls yearly like most car guys but just be careful?
