  • starting over on a 15 model.

So, ive had no luck with the car at all, 2015 impala LTZ in black, all the brands ive used have left smudge marks, think of it as if you where to clean your sunglasses with a tissue but that tissue has lotion in it.. ive fought this on and off for a few months on this car as well as the 16 Yukon that is also black.. So ive decided to start over... this is my plan of attach, feel free to chime in if im doing it wrong or you have a better idea etc etc.

    1) wash car, i have the meguiars ultimate wash the yellow stuff... which is what i usually use.
or should i use something stronger to remove all the wax all together.

    2) Clay bar, ( mothers) the store didnt have meguiars

    3) meguiars ultimate compound

    4) then meguiars ultimate liquid wax

I was looking for the black wax but they did not have that either,

I dont mind to shop at a different store to get the black if you all think it will work better then the ultimate liquid, or would you do both?

    Thanks

    Welcome to MOL.

Photos would help to see what you are working with. Sounds like it's a problem with technique. Are you working by hand or machine?

I've done it both ways. Same results. However exact same products on older gm does not do this or on 08 e55 we had

I've had a lot of black cars so I'm not really new to it. It's almost like gm has a new clear or something. I'll try to get some photos.

What pads are you using? Brand and color? If using a DA what speed/OPM are you setting it at?

Last time I use chemical guys black pad but I don't have real buffer. It's the one that sorta vibrates

last night I got one side done and still had the same results with the meguiars ultra liquid and there towel. I'll finish up tonight and then wash it. Some of the post I've found say to wash again after you wax

Re: starting over on a 15 model.

The tool you have is often referred to as a wax spreader. It won't offer the same type of correction as a dual action polisher. I would recommend you invest in an actual dual action polisher. It is possible you are using way too much product.

As I stated photos would really help in seeing what the paint looks like.

Re: starting over on a 15 model.

Sorry to hear about your trouble. Like others have mentioned, when we hear of users having issues applying or removing our waxes, after talking through it, most often times the issue is related to using too much product or not letting the product dry long enough. I guess users just have a different idea of what a "thin coat" is.

In the case of our Ultimate Liquid Wax, this product is quite different from our other waxes because it features our ThinFilm Technology, which is actually intended to make application very easy. When Ultimate Liquid Wax is applied on a paint surface, it definitely has a "thinner" feel to it. We have found at times because it does not look like a lot of product is going onto the surface, this can make the user apply more product, and when too much is used, you can run into issues trying to remove. You could say that Ultimate Liquid Wax is more sensitive to the amount of product which is applied, but when a thin even coat is applied, application and removal should be effortless. A light mist of a quik detailer spray can remove a streak left behind if needed. Ultimate Liquid Wax is OK to remove after 3 - 5 minutes and we would actually suggest you do this for best results.

We hope this information was helpful. Feel free to post further questions.

As the owner of a black car, I can tell you that in the case of applying waxes, black works in your favor. It allows you to see just how little product it takes to cover the surface of the paint. A tip I would give is to apply the liquid wax literally in DROPS onto the bonnet/pad of the buffer, not lines. Start with 5 or 6 drops and I'm sure you'll see just how much area that small amount will cover.
