  • markings in paint

Hi . This is my first post so be kind. I have some markings in my paint that I can not seem to wet sand out. I have tried 1000g and I just couldn't get it out. Does anyone know if I can go to maybe 800 or is it too risky or too late to get the mark out and have to repaint it? I would like to post pics of it but I am unsure just how to post them. Please help
    Thank you in advance.

If you haven't removed the blemish with 1000 grit, odds are you're not going to. In order to tell if you've gone too far, you're going to need a paint thickness gauge and readings from several areas on the car for comparison.

Did you see ANY color coming off in the slurry while you were sanding? If so you DID go too far. Unfortunately you are going to have to remove more paint to find out, by buffing the sanding marks out of it and seeing what's left. Good Luck.

. I do have a paint gauge but dumbass me didn't take readings before hand. Well I did prior like 3 weeks ago but it was just testing the gauge out. Most of my readings were between 4 and 6 mil. I did not see any color coming off. I did it in a few small places on my car where the clear coat was already coming off and I sanded it down and sprayed it with some cheap matching lacquer paint and clear from autozone and it seems to have blended nicely after wet sanding it. That is weird right? The paint seriously blended and I was down to the prime on that area. Hmmm. Food for thought I guess.
I'm not done with the wet sanding yet tho. I am taking it one panel at a time. I will take a few more ***** with the gauge on an area I already wet sanded down to get a proper gauge of what thickness I'm working with. That will give me a good idea if I can continue to wet sand. Can I keep sanding with 1000 grit or should I reduce it to 800?
      Thank you.

IMO, 800 is way too coarse for anything but knocking down freshly sprayed paint & its defects. Stay with the 1000 (or finer). Personally I would try 1500 or 2000
