washing car after respray.

Hi All,
My car has just been resprayed finished about 3 days ago. Panel beater has polished it etc. On the drive home the car was splattered by bugs, so I would like to wash it.

I have some Dura Gloss 901 left to wash it with. Would I be good to go to wash it? I use the two bucket method etc so I am no stranger to correct washing procedure.

I did do a quick search but could not really find anything to confirm my question.

I'd wait at least a week before gently washing it. I am not an expert but last time I had to get a car repainted, my body guy told me to wait a month at least before doing much washing/detailing.

Thanks StuGoesfast, my main concern is that all this bug splatter will tend to etch itself into the paint. Plus this wash product adds a shine as well, so I do not want to add something to the new paint which might be detrimental.

Wash it with a soap that leaves no waxes or conditioners behind. You will have to research that durables soap. From Meguiar's Deep Crystal leaves nothing behind.

Wash those bugs off to avoid etching.

Thanks The Guz, unfortunately as I live in rural town getting to a place which would sell what you mentioned would involve some traveling which is not just feasible at present.

A have another product which is made by Super Cheap Auto here in Australia. It states that it is pH neutral and makes no mention of adding any extra shine etc during the wash or any additive as such.

So I am wondering if this would suffice.

Even gently wiping with water and a soaked microfiber cloth would be better than letting the bugs have time to do real damage. You could lay a soaked towel across the top of the bug splattered areas to let it soften them and help them to wipe off more easily.

The 'soaking with a towel across the hood/fender' etc... is a popular method for removing baked-on bug splatters without heavy scrubbing or coarse towels. Using a good MF, you can use more pressure than you think. You don't have to be "New Born Baby" gentle, you can put a little bit of pressure on there to get the remains off without harming the paint.

Thank Don, that worked a treat a few hard spots but they came off. They said they polished the car prior to me picking it up, so that helped. I got the car resprayed due to very bad stone chips. So disappointed to see a few new ones already. I suppose that is the downside of living in rural area and traveling on highways which are always being repaired.

For new paint, you can wash and polish but no wax. The new paint has to "de-gas" and wax would seal the surface so prohibits the gas to escape. They say no wax for 90 days but this would depend largely on local climate.

For my current car, I painted it twice in different panels over the years. Since both times were in the summer, I waxed those panels after only 60 days. I did wait for a week before I started to wash the car (gently over the new surfaces with ample shampoo). I also used Meguiars Deep Crystal Polish occasionally during these cure periods. You can use any pure polish product in your local store.

Also don't forget that M305 is available and is ok to use on fresh paint.

In regards to Mequiar's products on brand new paint job, my local auto shop has the following Mequiars Gold Class and Mequiars Soft Wash Gel and Next Generation Car Wash?

I did ask the panel beater and he said basically anything that does not have wax or any form of sealant in at.

Though the paint work looks nice and shiny I was amazed at the swirls in the new paint and few dull spots, so looking forward at a much later date to get into some paint correction.
