  • Iron Remover and Cleaner Wax Recomendation?????

    Hello All,

A little input would be appreciated. FYI, I detailed for many years.

    1) Has anyone ever used an Iron Remover such as "Iron X" or "AutoFinesse"? I've always used a clay bar or Nano Skin personally but recently discovered these products which seem phenomenal.

Also, would it be feasible for a typical car owner? I may recommend it to others so less toxic would probably be best.

    2) Do you have a cleaner wax recommendation for a typical car owner or would you recommend a two part (polish/wax)? I always use a polish (m205) and then a wax (ultimate) personally. This however is for someone who wouldn't want to take an extra step. My thoughts were to have them mix some m205 with Ultimate Wax in a bottle for occasional use but maybe a Meguiars cleaner wax would be a better/cheaper recommendation.

    Thanks,
    Ralph

Trying to talk the average car owner into a two step process is usually not successful. Recommending a good cleaner wax is probably a better alternative. Do some searching about the new Meguiar's White Wax. In comparison to the traditional Meguiar's Cleaner Wax, it has a more aggressive polish, as well as more longevity. It's labeled White Wax, but it's good for all colors.

An Iron remover will not remove all surface contaminants. It's a must for a lighter colored vehicle that shows those pesky contaminants that look orange and black on white paint. Claying is still needed. Ironx is still the best one out there. Autofinesse was terrible and I would never purchase it again or recommend it to anyone. Let's see if Eldorado chimes in about DUB Wheel Cleaner as an iron remover.

There are plenty of cleaner waxes in the Meguiar's line. Just to name a few.

      A12
      White Wax
      Black Wax
Mirror Bright Polishing Wax - which fits in between white wax and black wax in terms of SMAT abrasives. This one is synthetic and will last longer than the others. Check out the new products link at the top of the forum.

      Take your pick.

I have used Dub wheel cleaner for removal of iron embedded in paint. I think there are better choices out there. I wasn't really satisfied with the results I got. I tried it in the same panel 3 times following all of the directions and it just wasn't effective. I have purchased IronX but I haven't been able to try it yet.

Ironx is great, no reason not to use it. I tend to use before washing, then doing a full detail.

I would just say White Wax , or White Wax the Ult Wax... keep it simple if busy.

I've used the Meguiars Cleaner Wax for years with very good results.....not as good as a two-step process....but still pretty good...only caution with the Cleaner Wax...it absolutely will stain black plastic trim and rubber gaskets.....just stay clear of those

Thanks for all the replies guys!

I've used the Meguiars Cleaner Wax myself but it has been several years and it was on a couple of light colored vehicles.

                1) The cleaner wax will be a recommendation for someone who has two black vehicles and whom will not want to do a two step process. The Mirror Bright Polishing Wax seems to be a very interesting prospect but I did like the results of the Cleaner Wax when I tried it. I just don't know what would yield better results on black for them? I just buffed (M101) polished (M205) and waxed (UW) one of their vehicles so it is pristine. This is for their benefit in keeping it pristine for the next few years.....

                2) The Iron Remover will be for my own usage (gray 4-Runner & silver BMW) but I may also recommend it to others. Would the IronX be recommended for a black vehicle in addition to clay barring (Nano Skin) or is clay barring alone sufficient for black? I've just never used an Iron Remover so it's new to me.

                God Bless,
                Ralph

What about D151 PRC? I bought a gallon of it on sale last year and used it on my bosses car. A silver Camry. Seemed to do ok. Isn't what I would use on my own car because I am using UP and UW. Hoping to trying it on a couple more daily drivers this year. It seemed to dry out a little quicker on the DA so I am still practicing working with it. I topped her car with PP365 just as an experiment as she doesn't wash her car much.

                    1. I haven't used the new Polish Wax, but if someone were going to look to maintain your work in the future, I would say ColrX is very easy to use, and a little stronger cleaning is a good thing.

                    2. Black will hide iron spots better than white, but still there. So up to you if it matters. And also great for wheels.
