  • lambswool wash mitt care

I'm just after some advice on how to care for lambswool wash mitts, because atm I am just rinsing the mitt with hot water after every use, (the mitt doesn't get that dirty during washing because I use the 2 bucket method). Is this ok? because I have heard that they are supposed to be washed with detergent or something.

    Re: lambswool wash mitt care

I would be reluctant to wash mine with hot water. Definitely no detergent, and not in a washing machine. While it is impossible to keep the hide supple forever, I would think that hot water would speed up the deterioration. I simply rinse mine with the hose and hang to dry. Mine has a hanging loop, so I use it to hang the mitt and I open it up at the wrist portion so it dries inside also. When you go to use it again, if it has hardened, put it in the suds bucket and let it re-hydrate for a while. Otherwise it can develop cracks sooner than desired. Don't use on the wheels/tires, and treat it gently over emblems and such. Not all mitts are created equal. Two years, depending on use is about all you can expect, although one I had started to fall apart in less than a year, and the one I have now I believe is on it's third season.
