  • Deep Scratches from improper rain guard removal

    Hey all,

I messed up when taking my rain guards off and scratched the paint on my beautiful black car. I tried Meguiar's Ultimate Compound with a DA polisher, and it had almost no effect. I'm pretty sure the scratches are too deep for that.

I am wondering what my options are... The scratches look deep, and I can definitely feel them with my nail. See the pictures here.

Is there any way that these could be wet sanded and fixed with a orbital polisher? I would be nervous to do this myself, so I would take it to get it professionally done.

I really don't like the rain guards, but if repainting the panels is the only way the car will look good, then I will put them back on. If the scratches are through the paint, how can I patch them so they don't rust? After I patch them, I could put the rain guards on to cover the patch work, if I have to.

    Please help!

    Alex

I think a re-spray is the only way to correct those scratches. Alternatively, pick up some touch up paint at the dealer or auto store, and touch up the deep scratches as best you can and reinstall the rain guards.
