  • Swirl products?

I am new to detailing. I have ordered a new Porter-Cable 7424xp as shown on the Autogeek web sight. I have always used Meguires products on my vehicles and would like to know best products for use with DA buffer.
My two vehicles are in excellent shape but do show a lot of swirl marks after washing. [especially bright red Colorado] I find it confusing to decide which products to use that will preserve the paint and still remove swirl, with the 7424XP buffer.

The M105 Ultra cut compound removes all the defects. m205 is a polish, and m7 is the final glaze. you finish that with a wax. I use the Mirror glaze professional products with a dual action polisher.

      Re: Swirl products?

Being a newbie, I would recommend you start with the ultimate line (compound, polish and wax). I would recommend M205 over ultimate polish as it is a more versatile polish. M7 is really meant for single stage paints. It can be used on modern day clear coats but not really needed. It has no correction ability but it will fill in defects.

Thank you. I have also been reading great reports on Ultimate Liquid Wax. The bright red shows up almost as bad as black.
I'll try both on test spots. My new buffer is due in tomorrow. When the weather permits, I am anxious to get started.

I appreciate your input. I will try the m205 first and see if I need the Ultra cut compound.

My suggestion would be Meguiars DMCKIT5 DA Microfiber Correction System Kit 5"

              2) DA Microfiber Cutting Discs, 5 inches
              2) DA Microfiber Finishing Discs, 5 inches
              1) 5" Backing Plate
              1) 16 oz. DA Microfiber Correction Compound
              1) 16 oz. DA Microfiber Finishing Wax
              1) Free Meguiars Detail Apron <- The best part!

This is an easy to use/learn swirl removal kit with everything you'll need to start.

The buffer package that I ordered will include a yellow, white, and blue Porter cable pad. The blue is a finishing pad.

What "buffer package" did you order?
Is that a 5" Backing plate and 5" pads?

If you are going with foam pads...I'd suggest
                    1) The Meguiars DBP5 DA Polisher Backing Plate. It is constructed of long-lasting urethane. Molded one-piece construction provides durable performance, detail after detail.
NOTE: The DBP5 has a built in stripe on the backing plate (BP) that allows you to view the rotation of the BP/Pad tho make sure your are achieving a good slowed rotation.
                    1) Meguiars DA Foam Discs are ultra-thin foam cutting, polishing & finishing pads that are designed for swirl & scratch removal, general polishing & waxing with a dual action polisher.

For Polishes for a newbie...I'd suggest
                    1) Meguiars Ultimate Compound cuts as fast as harsh abrasive compounds but without scratching… even on clear coat finishes.
                    1) Meguiars Ultimate Polish removes light swirls and water spots and deepens the paint color with rich polishing oils.
                    1) Meguiars Ultimate Liquid Wax can be applied in direct sunlight on a warm surface - it won't affect the performance of Meguiars Ultimate Liquid Wax.
NOTE: If a little wax gets on the trim, don't worry. Meguiars Ultimate Liquid Wax does not leave white stains on trim.

                      Re: Swirl products?

I'm fairly seasoned, and even I enjoy using the Ultimate line.

I have and use M100, M86, M205, M66, and M205, but I always start with the Ultimate line. Ultimate Polish is one of my favorite detailing products, of all that I've ever used.

If you only have one pad of each color- you may have a problem doing anything other than a wax/sealer. If you do attempt to polish an entire vehicle with one pad- be sure you do some reading on the AG website about "cleaning pads on the fly". You'll want to clean your pad often and be very aware of heat build-up. In fact, I'd recommend working on your technique with a blue pad and wax/sealer. And wait to polish until you have more pads. It's recommended to use at LEAST 3-4 pads per vehicle if compounding it polishing.

Learn how to use the machine with Ultimate wax and Blue Finessing Flat 5.5 inch Foam Pad. (slow speed)

IMHO the LC Yellow pad is not my favorite. Although an aggressive pad it seems to wear down quickly.
M105 is a very aggressive compound. IMO M105 is also kinda finicky...it flashes quickly, dusting etc.
If you want to to calm down M105 try adding a couple of pea sized drops of M205 with the M105.
My go-to LC foam pad for paint correction is the Orange Light Cutting Flat 5.5 inch Foam Pad.
M205 and the LC White Polishing Flat 5.5 inch Foam Pad is a fair/good choice for a finishing polish (M205)
The Blue Finessing Flat 5.5 inch Foam Pad is a perfect pad for applying Megs Ultimate liquid Wax.

Another very good choice is the Meguiars 5 Inch DA thin Foam Discs 1) Cutting 1) Polishing 1) Finishing

As you may have noticed I'm a big fan of using a Meguiars Soft Buff DBP5 DA Polisher 5 inch Backing Plate
This IMHO, is the correct backing plate and 5"-5 1/2" pad combo for use with a Dual Action (DA) polisher.

Again, to learn the DA I'd suggest Megs Ultimate Compound & Ultimate Polish from you local auto parts store.

The pads I have are from Lake Country which I understand could be a different color designation.
