    Hi all,

    Ive finally got all the products together and g100 etc...just got a couple of technique questions before I go for it.

    1) Overlapping motions with #83/#80. Are they supposed to be side to side, up and down and then diagonal...?

    2) Overlapping motions with cleaner waxes/pure. Are they supposed to be reduced i.e side to side 1 pass then side to side for the 2nd pass? Or would a diagonal 2nd pass be preferable?

    3) When using the ultimate bonnet to remove waxes, many people seem to prefer using them over the W-7006(i think). Will it make a great deal of difference using it with the W-9006 instead, is it going to slide around too much?

    Just trying to be certain on the theory side so I can attempt to get the best results possible.

    All of the above. Move the polisher side to side for one series of passes, then up and down for another series of passes and then diagonal for another series of passes. The idea is,

    Uniform Removal Of Material

    Not only do you overlap your passes, but you need to overlap your sections. When removing below surface defects, (removing paint), you need to work a small area, for example the size of an average microfiber polishing cloth. After you have worked this area, (3 passes in 2-3 directions minimum), then wipe off this residue and move on to a new section and, overlap into the previous section, otherwise you will have swirl free areas, and areas or strips with swirls. Remember to use a slow arm speed, and 4-5 pounds of pressure on the head of the polisher.

    2) Overlapping motions with cleaner waxes/pure. Are they supposed to be reduced i.e side to side 1 pass then side to side for the 2nd pass? Or would a diagonal 2nd pass be preferable?
    With cleaner/waxes, treat them like a paint cleaner because you need to do a thorough job of cleaning each square inch, (or centimeter ). for polish/waxes and pure waxes, you're not trying to remove defects, just a really good job of pushing the wax into the paint, (as much as is possible, some paints are more permeable than others), as well as leave a uniform layer on the finish. For this 2-3 passes in back and forth, up and down motions is fine, turn you speed to the 3.0 setting for polish waxes and pure waxes, use the 5.0 setting for cleaner/waxes.

    3) When using the ultimate bonnet to remove waxes, many people seem to prefer using them over the W-7006 (i think). Will it make a great deal of difference using it with the W-9006 instead, is it going to slide around too much?
    Real quick
    W-7006 is a very firm foam formula
    W-8006 is a medium density foam formula
    W-9006 is a very soft and pliable foam formula

    The W-7006 works best for removing wax with a microfiber bonnet because it's firm. The W-8006 works good, and the W-9006 doesn't work very well because it's too soft, it squishes in when pushed against. When removing wax with a dual action polisher and a microfiber bonnet, you want firmness to force the wax off the paint and into the bonnet. Use the 5.0 setting and press firmly against the polisher when removing wax. Don't be dainty with it or you will not remove the wax.

    Just trying to be certain on the theory side so I can attempt to get the best results possible.

    Follow the above and after cleaning, polishing, waxing and removing the wax from just the hood, you'll be an expert. It's not that hard to learn. A little hands-on training dramatically speeds-up the learning curve, but you can do it on your own with practice.

    Please do take some before and after pictures to share your results.

      Thanks for the advice there Mike

      Ive just ordered a cutting pad for use with the UB, may as well do it properly.

      I should be able to do the detail next week so ill stick a thread up when its done. Hopefully we'll have a bit of sun so I can get some decent full shine shots!

        Right, I started it all today.

        Ive only been doing the bonnet so far as its pretty bad...

        Ive been using the #83 on speed 5. I split the bonnet into 8 sections(in my head) and ive now done all of these sections twice. There are still a number of swirls and random scratches.

        Im thinking of doing another pass on each of these sections, making 3 in total. Can anyone tell me if this is normal to need this many passes in order to reach a mainly scratch free finish??

        Could my technique be incorrect? more pressure or slower arm speed( i have been going quite slowly and applying a fair amount of pressure). Or is it just a case of sticking at it.

        I want to do the cleaning part well as I can see this dictates the quality of the final finish.

        Any advice would be good
