  • Completed my first detail and a Thank you.

Not sure where Thank you posts go on this forum so I will settle for this one. As you can see by my number of posts and user name, I am a complete newbie to detailing. I went from being overwhelmed at the overload of information available on the internet to discovering this forum. In just a matter of a few weeks collecting products, reading articles, comments, looking at pictures, reading other peoples' questions I am learning so much. Yesterday I put all my knowledge use. I used my PC 7424xp for the first time. My test subject was my wife's 06 Honda Pilot (man, that's a lot of car for my first time out) I washed using Gold Class Car Wash, then clayed the car, I then taped around the trim and windows. I selected my test spot. I used Ultimate Polish with the yellow polishing pad (5 inch). I went slow and in a grid pattern. I could see the haze and did the swipe test and it looked just like Mike's picture. I wiped the polish and it came off easily. I could see the difference and how smooth the surface was compared to the rest of the car so I decided to continue with the UP and not use the UC. I went small section by small section wiping with towels every other section I did. I used 3 pads in all. Moved car into the sun and no swirls! There are some spots which need compounding (scratches, tough residue etc.) which I will focus on another day with my Ron Burgandy pads. I then used ULW with black finishing pad. The ULW didn't really haze or I couldn't see it in the shade well. I then applied second coat using Mother's Synthetic Wax which the haze showed up much better. I could not have accomplished any of this without you or this forum. Thank you so much. I can not recommend enough to read and reread the Five Step Paint Care Cycle post and comments.

Sounds like great success for you first time out - that's fantastic!! So how long before you drop that first word from your forum handle???

Whenever you get around to doing the tougher spots, give your UC a try with the yellow pad. More often than not, I've found that combo to work well on Honda clears with less marring than using the burgundy pad.
