  • help - cement splatter!

I recently went through a construction area and there must have been wet cement on the ground and I splashed through it. It's now cemented to side of my car by the wheelwell. What can I use to get it off without causing more scratches?

I'm really upset about this and have brought it up with the city about the construction zone but haven't heard back yet. I have pictures but I'm having trouble uploading - I will try again in a little bit.

    Concrete Spots:
Calcified water spots on paint and glass, water and concrete spots are pretty much the same chemically - calcium carbonate, with the concrete being cross-linked with water
    Methodology
•Apply 1:1 ratio water with distilled White Vinegar solution, and using a spray bottle, spray that mixture on the spots and let them "soak." Then rinse with water and repeat as necessary.
•If the ambient temperature water/vinegar mix does not work, warm (100-120 degrees) 100% distilled White Vinegar, saturate a clean kitchen sponge with pure vinegar and hold the sponge over the concrete spots for a few minutes.
•If the above do not remove them try equal parts distilled water, isopropyl alcohol and distilled white vinegar. The acid in the vinegar will help etch and dissolve the concrete.
•Rinse the area thoroughly with water after the vinegar and then reapply wax or sealant to that area.

Hey jon, good advise as usuall, i am missing your posts...

I am a mason by trade and i use vinigar to clean my level bubbles of the mortar that is on them.

Jon, or anyone, how do you feel about a 10% myriatic (sp?) acid and water solution for this?

      10% acid, 90% water....

*Dont mix this unless you have eye protection, or you have done it a million times....

I used to do mason work myself (Bricklaying), and I was leaning toward muratic acid too, until I read this...

Cement has limestone in it if I remember correctly.....Maybe something like a calcium, lime & rust remover would do.....But I'd be sure to test it on an old junk car 1st!

A friend had cement 'splash on the side of his truck. I recommended the warmed vinegar method, which he said he tried. That supposedly didn't work, so he took it to the dealership who proceeded to sand and spot paint the areas

Thanks for the info. I'll try the vinegar this weekend and see how it goes.

I still am having trouble uploading to the gallery so I'll try linking to the picture on a different server:
