    How to achieve this finish?

    Hey everyone, the journey of learning more autobdoy and cutting and polishing continues.Heres some pictures of a car i painted about a month ago, the color was too dark so I repainted it a lighter color.I sanded the car with 320 which made the clear/base completely flat.When I was washing it, I noticed the water just sat over the hood and it just looked incredible. Now I'm obsessed with the way it looked because of the clarity of the reflection.
    Is there anyway I can get this finish on a new paint job? You can even see a bird some 50-75ft in the air in the reflection! As well as the clouds, and the tree looks so sharp.If there is, can the products that i need be posted as well?I just don't think I've seen anything as clear as this and not sure if just hours of polishing will get this result, if its possible.The left front corner of the hood is what I have so far with the new color. I was told some swilr remover would make it look like the old color with water on it, looking for some more opinions.

    It's hard to believe nobody got on this.

    320...wow.
    You are going to have to work your way up to a grit that a compound will polish out, like 2000 or 2500.
    Depending on what you have or are willing to get(gear and product), getting the liquid look is relatively easy.

      Yea The first few pictures the car sanded with 320 only because it was being repainted, I did not sand with 320 to polish. But with the water on it, it looks great.

      The last picture of the hood is the new color, I only have the left front corner of the hood done.
      I sanded with 800-1500-2000 then polished.

      I have a rotary buffer, a DA buffer, cutting foam pad, polish foam pad and finishing foam pad.
      Products I use are the UP/UC m105/205. What else do I need to get and what to do with the products to get the liquid look?

        How did you polish?
        You should be able to dial it down with what you already have.
        M105>UC>M205>UP is the order which I am sure you already know. Strongest cut on left to mild on right

        What is the DA and brand of pads?
        If you sanded to 3000 with some unigrit it probably would be easier to finish out. Some guys go up to 5000

          The final picture I polished using UC/cut foam pad and UP/polish foam pad
          thanks for the steps of the compounds. I didn't know they went in that order. I'll try it out.
          The DA is a Chicago electric from HF.
          The pads are some generic brand also from HF.
          So to get more shine like a liquid look, it would be best to go over it with 3000 ungrit before polish?
          what is the difference between grit and ungrit? I have seen it a few times but never knew why some paper is ungrit...

            Well Serf those pads gotta go.
            If you don't have a 5 inch backing plate you will need to get one.
            Some Meguiars new 5" thin pads are in your future.

            I haven't used the Megs because I have quite a few 1500 and 3000 3 inch 3M Trizact discs left to use.

            With a 5" backing plate and better pads you will be able to make the magic happen.

              Thanks for the link Spaz! very interesting read. And the ungrit technology is unbelievable. I did not know sand paper could get even flatter and more level with such a fine grit.

              The sheets are a good price for me. The discs, are well, a bit too much for me.

              I use orion sanding discs, i have 2k and just ordered some 1500 to speed things up.
              I am going to go ahead and order some of the meguiars ungrit sheets. $26/$30 for 25 is not bad. Im going to continue using the orion discs from 1500-2000.
              Should i order some meguiars ungrit 2500 or 3000 to follow up with the orion 2000?

              If I use 800 grit to cut orange peel by hand, 1500-2000 on discs, and then 2500 or 3000 by hand, will it make a difference? or will it not make a difference because i started at 800?

              I have a 6" backing plate, another member also suggested a 5" plate, but this is the only size this affordable DA came in, is 1" that crucial when it comes to this? If so, I suppose I could get a 5" plate and make it work on this DA.
              I will look into some better foam pads also. I have heard good things about lake country, I will see what they have for me. Thanks for the reply and help!

                Are you wiping off your paint with that roll of paper towels?

                  I was using the paper towels to wipe off any compound that got in between panels.
