I'm looking for a paint cleaner to clean my paint that is already in pretty good condition (not looking for correction, but filling would be ok). I just planned on using Ultimate Polish, as I'd like to finish with ultimate liquid wax. The reason I chose UP was because I wanted a clean surface to ensure good bonding and increased longevity of ULW.

But if there is another way to clean without getting as abrasive as UP, that would be great. I'd like to use the least aggressive product I can, but still want solid cleaning out of it. I thought I should stay away from cleaner waxes so not to put "sealant over wax". Any suggestions?

Would white wax wax be a good option? Or is the carnuba going to prevent good ULW adhesion? I recently tried Collinite 476 over maroon bottle cleaner and it just felt like the colli didn't want to adhere.

Are you worried about the clear coat coming off the car after one use of ultimate polish? It's correction ability is pretty low. On top of that, polishing once or twice a year will not remove all your clear. You can even just use it with a finishing pad and let the abrasives do the work instead of the pad.

I am not big on topping a cleaner wax with another longer lasting product other than with a spray wax like D156 or ultimate quik wax. If one is going to top a cleaner wax, then why not simply polish. Will it cause the topper product from falling off after applying it? Of course not. But it will affect the longevity of that product. By how much? Well that is hard to say.

Meguiar's products are designed to work with each other. What does Mike Phillips say. It's synergy staying within the same family of products.

FYI white wax and black wax have abrasives in it. A12 cleaner wax (maroon bottle) does not.

One other product you may want to look into is M20. It's a cleaner sealant. It has a chemical cleaner in it that does the work while leaving a synthetic protection behind.

Thanks Guz! No I'm not worried about the clear. But I read all this "least aggressive product first" stuff and it got me thinking maybe i don't need polish and should simply start with something less aggressive.

Sometimes we over think things too much. UP is a good place to start.

You could try Deep Crystal Polish too. Completely non abrasive. Sometimes the applicator can provide enough cleaning action to make an impact on the finish. You also have the actual finish enhancement quality of the polish.

I get great correction out of Ultimate Polish, but I wouldn't worry about it removing too much clear either.

Polishing pad or finishing pad. Depends on how the paint responds.
