  • Cleaning tires so no tire diressing is needed?

    All,

Is there any way to clean tires such that they have a clean black finish and dressing is not needed?

I'm a Hyperdressing user, but there are many times I'd like to just clean my tires and not have to dress them.

I've used Bleche-Wite, APC, and other degreasers with a stiff bristled brush but I can't seem to get the brown film to disappear no matter how many times I scrub.

    Thanks!

P.S. Why is it impossible to type a post with IE on this site??? Most of my keypresses seem to not be received...

I have not gotten good results with Bleche White. I have moved on to using Meguiar' D143 Non-Acid Wheel & Tire Cleaner. Hot Rims All Wheel & Tire Cleaner is similar to D143. It does a nice job cleaning tires. Some tires can still look brown after cleaning. Just depends on the brand.

I use 303 Aerospace Protectant (made and sold by the Sta-Bil fuel stabilizer folks). It's not a tire dressing really, but it supposedly hydrates and maintains rubber and vinyl surfaces. I like it because it cleans tires and leaves them with that fresh new look without leaving a greasy or shiny finish behind. I also like that it wont sling off on the panels and wont brown my tires. It may take an aggressive couple of first applications to really work out any brown from tires and make a difference though.

No amount of scrubbing has been able to remove the brown from the Michelins on the pathfinder. I've tried numerous tire cleaners and scrubbed until there was no brown coming off the tire. Wait until they dry and they are still brown unless I dress them.

Just nature of the beast sometimes.

It is called "blooming". Chemicals in the rubber leach to the surface to protect the tire from the cracking effects of ozone. Michelins are notorious for it, which makes them such a great, long lasting tire. The dressing just slows the leaching down.

Probably the worst tire I have owned actually. They ride like ****, are heavy, noisy, and can't handle a little bit of snow...
I'll stick with Continentals from now on after these are worn for an all season.

The brown on the tire is just the anti-ozonants. At the point where the tire has been scrubbed multiple times there is no more blooming. It is just how those tires are.

I'm surprised you don't have an everlasting black tire after having used Hyper Dressing for some time. From personal use on my own tires they stay back even after having cleaned them with D101 APC or D108 Super Degreaser. But then again, if your tires are Michelins, that may very well be the reason for your problem as those tires are the absolute worst when it comes to keeping a good looking tire.

You'd think so, but hyper dressing lasts a couple weeks in ideal conditions before the tires are brown again. My hankooks stay black, after cleaning, so do my continentals, dunlops, and falkens.
I really don't have good things to say about the Michelins at all.
