I just purchased this 2003 Mazda Protege5 in Midnight Blue Mica. The overall condition of the car I would describe as Not Abused but in many ways neglected. Like a nerdy very safety minded person who is very cautious.. but has bad personal hygeine. The body is straight - The paint is mostly ok .. nothing some basic nuts and bolts polishing wouldn't address.. The back driver's side quarter panel is another issue .. it has cracking and spotting on the clearcoat. The rear upper spoiler/vailance it appears most of the clear coat is gone.. their are some remnants of clear on the very edge but the majority of the vailance body appears to have the clear layer stripped away.
I have painted 2 cars in my life.. I'm a serious, engaged, detail oriented hobbyist but not a professional. I have plenty of wet sanding time under my belt- I have good spraying skills... I have managed to keep working at things and most of the time end up with very good results in whatever I've tried. I am patient and careful.
I don't have any experience bringing paint like this back.. I am not going to repaint this car-... repair is the only option. This will be a daily driver that I hope to be proud to be seen in.. If I can properly address this quarter and vailance that should happen no problem.
