  • Type of Applicator for UC

I will be using some Ultimate Compound this weekend BY HAND, and was wondering if there is supposed to be a specific applicator I am supposed to use, or can I find something at the local stores to use. Autozone has those DA packs. But I don't know about using those by hand?

    Thankyou and Peace!

Do you mean those DA Power Packs?
Ideally you want to have foam applicators to work with, but they can be pretty hard to find in stores [they're impossible to find by me]

Next best thing are microfiber applicators. They're a little bit more aggressive than the foam ones, but in my experience using them by hand they work great. You can find them at Autozone, Oreillys etc.

What kind of vehicle/yr. will you be trying this on?

A foam or microfiber applicator. As stated up above, microfiber is a more aggressive. If there is a Pep Boys in your area, they may have the foam applicators from Peak.

You should consider picking up a dual action polisher. You can pick up a DA from harbor freight for a decent price.

I was really thinking about the MT300, but I will definitely have to save up for that one. In the meantime, you think the Harbor Freight would work ok?

Thankyou for the help with the Applicators guys. If I have to, I will use the microfiber ones, but I will check Pepboys out also.

Eldorado2K, it will be a 2013 Camry Navy Blue daily driver. I already have UC so that's why I was going to use it, and top it with ULW. Otherwise in the future to save cost I will just be doing the All in one Reconditioning cream. I forget the number on that one.

Ultimate Compound is great stuff. Just remember it doesn't necessarily have to be used repeatedly. Same with the D151 Paint Reconditioning Cream to a lesser degree because it's also a wax.. Point is that you don't necessarily need to polish your paint repeatedly year round as long as you maintain it after your initial compounding.

D151 has abrasives in it along with wax, but if you're not in the need for any "polishing" than why not pick a straight wax/sealant such as Ultimate Wax intead? Keep in mind that It's protection will last alot longer than D151 and doesn't have any abrasives in it.

Plus a little Ultimate Wax goes a long way. Once you get your technique down you'll realize you can wax your whole car with as little as 2oz. of Ultimate Wax.

The MT300 is a surprisingly nice machine for the money. Surprised at how smooth it is.

If you do pick up a Harbor Freight DA, do yourself a favor and pick up a quality backing plate and pads from somewhere else.

@DasBurninator. What is that? A shirt? An apron?^

@Willowcatfish. I have Ultimate Wax, D151 Paint Reconditioning Cream, Black Wax, Cleaner Wax.. For my own car I'd choose Ultimate Wax over the others any day of the week for 2 main reasons.
              1. If I don't need to remove anykind of defects, I see no good purpose to be removing anymore of my clearcoat.
              2. Ultimate Wax outlasts the others by a mile.

Whoa! Lot's of Awesome information right there guys!!! Thankyou! As for the Harbor Freight one, do you guys feel, if I get the right backing plate and stuff like that for it, will it do a good quality job? I'm just thinking should I do a number of cars by hand, while saving for a MT300 or whatever good one you guys suggest, OR get a harbor Freight for $70, and detail cars for a good while with it then later down the road get a better one?

                Thanks and Peace out!

Nice set up. Is this the black friday order you sent me? Are those the gloves that came with the MT300?

I agree with this statement regarding the HF DA. The MT300 is a better machine over it in terms of comfort and it also had very good power.

                    To answer your question, Yes.

                    Check it out
Left side, before - Right side, after

I did that with the HF DA and Ultimate Compound + Ultimate Polish.

All you need to get for it is the Meguiars 5" DA Backing Plate [DBP5] + a couple Meguiars Thin Foam Cutting Pads + a couple Thin Foam Polishing Pads and maybe 1 Thin Foam Finishing Pad
[You can get a deal on 6pk of pads]

Hey what the heck? How come you didn't send me 1 of these black Friday orders? I thought we were friends? Lol.

Yeah, this is most of that order. I made out like a bandit for 300 bucks... Those are the gloves. I'll snap some pics of them for you tonight out of the package.

My only gripe with the MT300 is the trigger feel. I'm pretty pampered with my FLEX machines on the trigger side of things though...

Detailing.com had a crazy deal on things. TheGuz gave me a heads up on it. MT300 for $185 with the free gloves.

Nice! You can't beat that for the money that's for sure! Great Results, and Thankyou for the heads up on this machine Eldorado2K. Looks like I'll be owning a DA quicker than I thought.

                          Take care man!

@Willowcatfish. Dude, you're going to be so happy with the results you're going to get

You're going to get to the point where you get a kick out of just staring at your car because the paint looks so good. Lol.

                            It's a very cool satisfaction you'll see
From there just maintain the finish properly [which is its own jar of fun] and it'll remain swirl free and looking great from that point on
