  • New Ram Truck - Ultimate Liquid Wax?

I just bought a new Ram 2500 CTD truck. It was built in August and I have it in the drive now.

I want to get a coat of Ultimate Liquid Wax on it and am wondering how to best proceed? Since the finish is brand new I suspect I do not need to polish it but should I clay it first?

    Insights would be appreaciated.

Yes, clay first as a minimum.

If the truck has some swirls and you have the time, you could also compound / polish after claying and before waxing.

Are you doing this by hand?

We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.

If I were to polish, I would use a machine to put it on. I plan to hand apply the Ultimate Liquid Wax. By the way, this is a white truck. The big issue is the size and it is hard to reach due to the height. Much has to be done from a platform/bench.

Clay bar for sure. My Sorento had rail dust on it when it was brand new that you you couldn't see but showed up on the clay bar.

I suspect that mine is covered in rail dust too. These trucks are assembled in Mexico and I bought it in Greensboro, SC from one of the largest dealers Ram diesel truck dealers in the US. I can imagine the beast rode a rail car for many days to get delivered.

You could also do some clay, then cleaner/wax of some sort, then Ult wax...

Do a baggie test after your next bucket handwash. If it's rough, clay then wax. If it's smooth you might be just fine going straight to wax. Only thing left is doing a close visual inspection for random little spots that may be on the paint, anything from tree sap to iron deposits/rail dust is especially visible on white paint. Good news is the claybar gets rid of those blemishes with ease.

Agreed big trucks can be a challenge. Always nice when owners installed aluminum diamond plate tool boxes to stand on to get the roof done. Reaching to the center of the hood, now that ladder or bench work for sure. As other have said, clay for sure. Another suggestion is a quality tire dressing.
