  • #16 wax question (Help)

    Hi

    Is this right???

    I apply NXT saturday.
    Leave over night (12hrs).
Next morning apply #16 wax and leave on car for 5 mins and under.

    (Is that right??)

After its been a dry day i get home to get the dust off the car and the wax smears.

    (Is that right??)

Once after washing the car it does not smear anymore

    (Is it still protected??)

    Thanks for your help peeps!!

No that is wrong. Where did you get that information?

There are no Meguiar's waxes that you leave on longer than 10 to 20 minutes. In most cases, the only time you would leave a Meguiar's wax on as long as 20 minutes would be because it's cold and humid in your area and it's taking longer for the wax to dry.

Who told you to leave NXT Tech Wax on overnight?

You apply NXT Tech Wax and after it has dried, you wipe it off. For most people this will be about 10 to 15 minutes. Then if you want, you can leave your car's finish alone for a window of time of 0 to 12 hours as the polymers you have left behind fully set-up. This is an option, not a requirement.

Then after that, if you want to top this product with another product apply your second product. Meguiar's doesn't recommend this, we realize this is something that people like to do.

Here are to threads you should read.

I must of explained it wrong.

I apply NXT and wait for it to dry then buff it up.
Wait 12hrs and apply #16 wax.

With the #16 wax how long do you leave it on for before buff up??

What you intended to says sounds about right. With #16, as well as many other waxes, there is not set time, it is very subjective. In my experience I would apply #16 to a panel, move to the next, apply and remove the preceding panel. It can be a little tough to remove if you wait too long or apply too thickly. The factors that will effect removal time are thickness of coat+ambient temperature+quality of prep work and buffing material.

The only time it smears is when I apply too heavily in a certain area, not giving the wax enough time to haze completely. A simple way of combating the smearing problem is to apply some more wax over the smears and remove quickly.

I tried to do one panel then buff up the one before- Still smeared.

It could be the NXT has not dried right

Yesterday i apply a coat of #16 wax.
The #16 wax was not dry completly today.

Today it rained, so i washed/dried the car.

                Is the car still protected????

                Thanks

How cold is it where you live, how humid is it?

Even a thin coat should dry completely within 20 to 30 minutes. Most people apply this wax using too much wax and then complain that it's hard to remove, which it will be. The key is thin coats. Also, this wax is only for paint in new or perfect condition.

Yesterday i apply a coat of #16 wax. The #16 wax was not dry completely today.
This is almost impossible to believe unless it's really cold, really wet and you applied a really thick coating, even after all this, if you let this wax set-up overnight, it should be dry enough to remove without smearing.

I wish I were there to show you how easy it is to work with using the right techniques and tools.

Did you wash the car with the wax still on it? Or did you remove the wax and then wash the car?

I have experienced the same thing you are going through, Please for give me I did not read the whole post, but the only time I had #16 smear or leave an oily residue behind is when my Microfiber's were contaminated or I over used a single towel. I'll explain. when I wipe down my truck I usually go through 4-5 towels just to remove the wax, if you try to remove to much wax the towel will be come loaded up and not remove all the wax like there made to. also be careful what detergent you use when washing them out, any type of fabric softener will cause your microfiber's to resist removing wax.

sometimes we need to rethink the basics.
                    hope this helps
                    good luck

The wax could be too thick.
After buffing up the wax if you run a towel lighly over the car, not everywhere smears.
Once finished with #16 then it smears everywhere.
I washed the car with the wax still on.

I use one side of the towel for the drivers side of the car & bonnet and the other side of the towel for passenger's side.

Thats different towels for NXT & #16 wax.

If i wash the car after #16 wax it does not smear anymore

If i go over the car again with a Terry's Towel it smears even more, but with a Microfibre cloth its not as bad.

                      Thanks peeps
