  • PP365 Over Black Wax - Any Benefit?

Hey guys, I just ordered some PP365 and foam applicators to use on a couple of family members cars. Perfect test subjects as they just barely keep up with washing and will not wax the cars. Anyway...

Right now on my car I have probably a couple of coats of Black Wax, one applied by hand and then recently I applied with the DA Power system which gave me some nice quick correction. I wash my car weekly with ONR Wash & Wax and dry the car using a light application of Ultimate Quik wax on one of the drying towels. On to the question…Lol

Since winter is coming, I probably won’t be able to wash as often and will mostly be rinsing off at self-service stalls between ONR washes maybe every 1 1/2 - 2 weeks, if that. (Depends on how much snow / road salt there is this season and also temps.) Next Black Wax application won't come until March probably. Is the drying with Ultimate Quik Wax after washes enough to keep my car protected through the winter or would I benefit from an application of the PP365 sealant over my current coats of Black Wax?

Just looking for opinions. What fun is this site if you don't way overthink keeping your car looking good?

    Thanks.

It won't hurt anything. BUT having black wax under the PP365 may affect longevity of the PP365.

PP365 is intended to be used as a standalone LSP.

365 would be more durable than black wax or UQW. As stated up above 365's longevity may be affected by applying it over black wax. If you have the time you can use a dedicated polish (ultimate polish or M205) and then seal the car with 365. I personally like to start with a fresh base but if you don't have that kind of luxury then you can always clay and seal with 365.

How long ago was black wax applied?

^^ This would be my recommendation.

The clay will remove the Black Wax and the PP365 will give the most durable protection.

We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.

I did the Black Wax about 3 weeks ago.

It the wax in white wax lasts a good amount of time. I would expect the same for black wax.

As I stated if it was me and I had time I would polish with UP or M205 and then seal. If you don't have that luxury you can clay and seal and be done.

You could even use D114 at 6:1 to strip the wax.

Ok cool. If I have time before the winter I may run over the car with the DA and Ultimate Polish and then seal with the PP365. Otherwise I may just go through the winter maintaining the black wax with UQW after washes and start fresh when the weather gets warmer.

              Thanks for the tips guys!

Clay and seal with 365. Make the maintenance work less for you in the winter. You could even use IPA to strip off black wax and all the other waxes on the paint.
