  • Tire Shine Selection

Hey guys I need some help deciding on my next tire shine product, currently I use the endurance tire gel it works great but I'm looking for something more economical. I've done some research on MOL and narrowed it down to meguiars tire and trim gel (D163) AND the All Season Dressing. What do you guys suggest to be both durable and economical.

I was also looking at the Hyper Dressing since it can be diluted, but from what I've read it doesn't seem to be very durable. Any help would be appreciated.

Also just on a side question is there any professional line version to the Natural Shine Protectant?

    I use D163.

It's more durable than ASD and still economical enough. I like the way it leaves the tires looking, and the fact that it doesn't sling!

We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.

I'm not much of a fan of Hyper Dressing on tires. It works, it lasts decently, but its streaky on smoother tires. I like it for dressing wheel wells and engine bays.

I just bought some D163 recently and have only had a chance to use it on one car. I don't have much of an opinion on it yet. Jury is still out.

In this case D163 would be my recommendation. All Season was ok on tires. I still like D163.

There is no pro version of Natural shine but M40 may be an option.

I can at least give you my initial thoughts. It has really no smell, slight chemical smell maybe. But it is pretty much no smell. It went on very evenly. It dries to the touch. No issues with slinging at all.

Used some on some trim and hoses in my engine bay on one of my cars just to play with it a bit. Again, goes on easy, dries to the touch. Not greasy at all.

Had my buddy send me a picture. I had washed his car on Monday this week and it did rain a bit last night. He said he was driving through it. Seems to be holding up well but until I can get some on one of my cars I can't make a proper judgment on longevity.

Thanks, it looks really good though. I'll try it out next time I'm buying.

Here's a before/after shot of the tires on my friends truck that I did this past weekend.. Hyper Dressing applied with a flagged tipped brush. What's your honest opinion of how this looks?

It looks great the shine is amazing but since its water based, when it rains does it completely go away?

Yes and no. On those tires, since they've only been done like that once, then yea it'll go away if it were to drive through rain.. But if you continuously dress your tires with it they kind of get to the point where it's sort of impossible to fully get the stuff off of them.

For example my tires.. They've seen so much Hyper Dressing @1.1 dilution that they'd need The Guz to pull out his Porter Cable w/brush attachment and even then I wouldn't be surprised if they were still black and felt conditioned. I myself have tried to scrub my tires to their virgin state and gave up after about 7-8 tries in the past, as I couldn't get them to dry up and turn brown like a regular tire should.

Just this past weekend I decided to take The Guz up on his challenge when he stated that D143 "owns" Super Degreaser... Well take a look at what actually happened. Lol.

FYI: I had just dressed my tires that same morning. So it pained me to have to do this, but I wanted to prove a point. Because I wasn't about to stand around and let Super Degreaser get "owned"

                          Front tire:

                          Rear tire:

My cat's probably wondering what the heck I'm doing because the tires look just fine the way they are.

                          D108:

                          D143 on the rear tire:

                          After hosing off D108:

                          Then D143:

And finally blow drying the tires with Master Blaster Sidekick. Not quite as shiny, but still slick, still black. I cannot get it to wash off even if I tried scrubbing it all morning. Lol.

                          D108 tire.

So in my quest to find out which tire cleaner truly owns, it turned out Hyper Dressing owned em both! Lol. I too was owned as that turned out to be a waste of time and energy, water, and product too:p

                          D143 tire.

These results are not typical, because I'm just a tad bit OCD about keeping my tires dressed

Lol thanks for taking the time to do that test, Wait til The Guz see the results. Im the same way, I just hate to see a dirty car and even worst a clean car with brown tires lol.

But after seeing your tires with the hyper dressing and even after you tried cleaning it, I'm seriously considering the hyper dressing as well. Might just get both the hyper dressing and the D163 and make my meguiars collection even bigger

I'm flattered that you are thinking about me lol.

It sounds like your tires have absorbed so much product and conditioning agents that they no longer get to a clean state. What you can do is clean them every week for like a month and not dress them. That will give any conditioning agents time for them to be pushed out by the antioznants within the tire. The key is not to dress them. Of course this varies by tire manufacturer and rubber compound.

Just looking at your photos, to me D143 looks cleaner. It appears that there is still product on the D108 tire. I'm not saying D108 is a bad product. If I was doing this for money then that would be a great product to use based on dilution factor alone. What I should have done was taken photos of using D108 on one tire. The product does turn brown on the tire. I also machine scrubbed that tire with D108. What I did after rinsing the wheel and blasting it dry with the Metrolaster Sidekick was follow up with D143. That pulled more dirt and grime out. I was using D143 at 2:1 and D108 at 10:1. Based on what I saw, D143 outperformed it.

D108 has it's uses but for me it is not on tires.

I have some hyper dressing but I doubt I will be using it on tires. I am actually in the process of cleaning my tires weekly for a month or two to prep them for another tire coating.

My tire dressing of choice for personal use is D163.

Here's two coats on my other car in direct sun

Here it is on my daily. I am 99.9% sure this is two coats as well.
