  • Best wax for new paint job

I have just had a 1998 Honda Civic repainted (Maaco, if anyone is interested). This is the separate base and clear coat (5 year warranty) package.

I have heard that you are supposed to wait 30 days before doing any washing or waxing (I'll ask them when I pick it up today). I would like to know what type of wax would be best when I wash & wax it for the first time. I have Ultimate Quick Wax and also Gold Class carnuba. I have had in the past, the Meguiars cleaner wax as well.

Would cleaner wax be best for a new paint job, or would the regular wax be best? I know there wouldn't be lots of contaminants in the paint, but the paint would have to go 30 days without a layer of wax protecting it, so I just want to make sure.

You will want something that allows the paint to breathe and doesn't contain silicone

M305 is right in line with what you want.

Yeah you could use M305 right away after a new paint job. Or you can wait the 30-90 day window until you wax it. You can wash it with a soap that has no wax in it. For example Hyperwash would be an excellent soap to use.

Would this be simply to give me a "just waxed" look for that first 30 days? Or does it also help the paint stay on better than waiting the 30 day period?
