Is this just best left to the professionals? or can a weekend warrior get the tools and learn the craft himself ?

I'm always fearful of getting a ding. Even though I park as far away as possible, making sure another car isn't going to typically park anywhere near it, but there's always sometimes when you come back to your car and there's been some damn town hall meeting or whatever and all of a sudden there's a thousand cars surrounding yours.

NOT happened yet on my new car, and I've seem to have done good for the last couple of years.. But it is inevitable...

I'd like to reduce that anxiety by learning how to remove the dings myself.... How hard is it for a weekend warrior to master? I see what seems to me a pro kit goes for around $600.... Which admittedly is far more than what i'd want to spend... Mind you i did spend $300 on an MT300 for swirls that i didn't have. lol So i'd go $300 if i could nail down the most important tools needed.

But even with the kit, how do you learn it.. I've seen it being done, and i know its the sort of thing they just make look easy !!!

Anyone here into removing their own dings ? How did you learn?

    Re: Ding removal

There are quite a few PDR (Paintless Dent Removal) training courses you can do.

They are mainly geared toward those wanting to do it as a career (or those looking to offer it as part of their detailing business) but I suppose you could buy the tools and take a course...

    Google "PDR Training".

We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.

I use Doorshox. Great device that has saved me from at least 2 door dings that I know of.

Doesnt seem to matter how far i park away , when i come out to my truck theres usally someone parked right on top of me and it allways seems to be the most beat up rusted car in the lot. Everytime i go to do a fulll detail i find dings and scrapes that i didnt cause. Most people dont care about the apperance of there own vehicles and the least of there concern are others vehicles. I parked my truck one day in perfect just detailed condition and when i returned there was a huge dent in my right front fender( about an inch deep and 6 inches long) looked like somone elbowed it and the fender would definately need replacing. And of course no note or anyone to tell me how it happened it just appeared magically. I was really upset my truck was less than a year old. I contacted the PDR guy for my area and he worked his magic , took about an hour and now you cant tell it was ever there. The work these guys do is amazing, i couldnt have come close with all the tools and time in the world. Best bet is to go with someone that does it on a daily basis and not to waste your money on the tools and possibly making it worse.

I had a ding in my car and I used a local PDR guy and he even came to my job and did it. Can't even tell there was a ding in the car.
