  • DC #1 Capabilities

Anybody used DC #1 before that can give a heads up as to how well it works? I just ordered some and it came via UPS today along with some other things but was just curious as to what specifically it helps to remove on the paint. I noticed it said that it removes swirls but I'm a little confused since I thought this was a purely chemical paint cleaner. Thanks.

You are correct, that DC#1 will not be the best at removing swirls. It can do some light ones, but that is mostly from the abrasiveness of your pad and the lubrication of the DC. For more dealing with more swirls, and in the consumer line, you would need something like ColorX, or ScratchX.

As far as how it works, it works real well. Goes on and off easy. I use it often, as I am not a fan of using an abrasive product every time on my paint, even though I know I should be able to use ColorX, etc, all the time. I look at it more as 'wax prep', using it when I know I have gave a good cleaning recently.

      Hi jetta18T

Murr1525 pretty much covered it, Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner is a chemical cleaner only, it contains no diminishing abrasives for removing below surface defects. The cleaning and/or removing ability of this product is affected by your application material and process, by this I mean a foam wax applicator is less aggressive than a fiberous applicator, a dual action polisher will provide more cleaning, or abrading action than your hand will over large areas.

If you truly have swirls you would like to remove by hand, then ScratchX is better option. Deep Crystal Paint cleaner is a great paint cleaner for cleaning the surface in preparation for polishing and/or waxing.

      Hope this helps...

Thanks Murr and Mike... I was just curious to find out how well of a product it is for basic prep before waxing, nothing serious like swirl removal. When it comes to swirls #80 and the PC is my favorite combo but as Murr said it's not always required to use something so aggressive. I wanted to go with the philosophy of using the least aggressive product for some light paint cleaning before waxing and figured DC#1 would be perfect. I'm anxious to try it out this weekend hopefully in combination with the DC#2 and a coat of NXT. Thanks guys.

I really like to use DC#1 great easy to use product very gentle but it seems to do a very nice job leaving your paint squeaky clean!

Lately I have been messing around trying to find a "Cleaner" to use from time to time and take care of some annoying swirls/fine scratches... This is where #80 came into play works very well (tired #9 but I knew I could do better). Now that I have found #80 I plan on going back to DC#1 for the majority of my details then when I see some swirls/fine scratches start to reappear I will move to the #80 (something like once a year, after I clay).

          Thats the plan now anyway.

Here's a detail I did a while back on my car simply using the 3-Step Deep Crystal Method:

            Oxidation removal

After seeing those results from the DC system, I became a Meguiar's fanatic and I am now certified car crazy (by my wife).
