  • Cleaning pads & MF's after using Paint365 ?

    Hi,

So i recently sealed my car using PP365, and while it yielded amazing results in its hydrophobic qualities, it also made my application pads, VERY hydrophobic. I've handwashed in hot water and detergent squeezing them thru and thru, continuously until i gave up, and the pads still feel like they're caked in the PP365... Its obviously doing its job in rejecting any water, which is great for the car, but not so good for the pads.

I also used some of my more expensive MF's to buff off the 365.

I have not put them in the machine yet, wondering if i should be pre-soaking them with anything special... Handwashing the pads with regular detergent in hot water, and my hands even became hydrophobic... So not convinced a machine wash is going to do much.

Best stuff out there IMHO at keeping water off things, BUT the downside to that is getting the product off any cleaning pads or MF's you used.

I have Towel Kleen specially formulated for MF's that i can try on a machine... But putting this out there, as I'm sure Megs thought about this when making this product.

I don't mind if need be in future sacrificing a couple of Kirkland MF's ($16 for 32) and a couple of application pads, but it would mean i'd have to apply by hand rather than using my megs 5" foam wax pads, which are considerably more expensive than some less expensive foam applicators.

Have you tried using some APC to remove the 365? You may need to mix a strong batch. Did you let the pads dry with product prior to being washed?

The pad I used on just the hood was stained with the color of the product but the product came out as I washed it with APC right away after being used. I dedicated that pad for 365 just like I do with other pads with other products.

These pads are more than likely going to be dedicated pads for 365.

Towel Kleen should be able to remove the residue from the towels. Although you might want to keep these towels separate from any others while washing.

When I used the coating on my dad's car I had a bucket filled with water and DP Pad cleaner and would toss the towels and applicators into that bucket so that they would soak and have the product removed while it was still wet. Then I washed them with towel kleen. They came out clean with no residue on them.

Might be something to think about the next time 365 is used.

No i always clean my DA pads right after using them. Just handwash though in hot water squeeze them out and let them dry. Never had a problem using ULW or other brands of synthetic wax. They'd rinse out nicely ready for the next wax. PP365 doesn't come out as easily.. I'll try soaking in some APC and see if that helps.. If not, not the end of the world, as i'm only a weekend warrior, and will probably end up dedicating that particular 5" pad to PP365 use.. Which works exceptionally well.

I do soak my MF's in APC, once i've got enough of them to warrant a load in the machine... Thinking they'll probably be ok. A good soak, then a wash in the machine with Towel Kleen. Think you're probably right though, I shall keep a dedicated set of pads and MF's for PP365. It's extremely hydrophobic. Which is typically a good thing !!!
