  • Wash and Wax - What happens ?

    HI there.
Somehow this question came up in my mind and I was curious on the consequences if we ,

    Wash the Car
    Then Wax.

    Skipped polish and Defect fixing.

What happens to the body paintwork ?
    Thanks.

The paint is clean and protected, but with swirls and defects present. Even the protection of the wax isn't as good as it could be if the surface is not properly prepared.

And the car won't be as shiny as it could be. Even if you use an ultra high end (think waxes costing thousands of dollars, and those with "60+% carnauba wax"), the shine won't be as impressive.

That's what I do most of the time especially in the summer in Texas. It's too hot to spend hours correcting paint and polishing. I'm sure sweat is bad polishing compound

You'd have a wash and waxed car but still with swirls if any were present before. Some maybe hidden for a little while.

Agree with all the above, but it certainly wouldn't hurt anything either.

We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.

If time is an issue (as with many of us!), you can do a quick detail. Wash, Cleaner wax, then your finishing wax. Sure, it definitely won't correct paint, but cleaner waxes will help in giving a deeper cleaning action and therefore give that extra shine.

                  Agreed.

I only do the 5-step paint care cycle once per year; usually after the winter. The rest of the time I just do wash-and-wax. I usually wax with Cleaner Wax (Mirror Glaze line), sometimes tops it with Ultimate Liquid Wax.
