  • Need help with removing egg damage

A friend's Dodge Dakota Quad Cab got egged a couple weeks ago. It happened at night, and he didn't notice it for a couple days. He washed all of it off, but it had already etched the paint at that point. He brought it over to my house tonight, and I tried to remove the damage using my PC & #80. It's better, but you can still see the spots were the egg etched the paint. This is a clearcoat paint FYI. Is there anything else we can try with the PC, or does he need to find a professional with a rotary? Here is a pic of the damage. There is a spot to the right of the hood crease, and another to the left near the cowl. The damage was hard to capture with a camera, but easily seen by the eye.

He was impressed how smooth the paint was after #80

    Hey,

Sadly, egg damage is usually a lot worse than most people realize. Often, the impact from the egg alone often creates tiny cracks in the paint. These cracks can not be buffed out if that is the case.

I would try and lessen the damage by trying #83 DACP and a W-8006 polishing pad with the PC. If that does not do it, perhaps going to a professional with a rotary.

I have tried to remove egg damage with a rotary on many people's cars. Sometimes, I was lucky and the damage was not too bad. But many times, it was permenant and required a re-paint. Sorry.

        Hey,

Like I said, you may be able to successfully remove the damage. Give it a try first and then go from there. I would just make sure the owner is aware of what may be the result before you try.

I have always wondered what in an egg can/would do so much damage to paint? You would think something you can eat wouldn't hurt and automotive paint!?!?

Can a good coat of wax prevent the damage?
