  • SwirlX after Ultimate Compound?

Do I need to use SwirlX after Ultimate Compound? My concern is that Ultimate Compound will leave microscopic peaks and valleys and that Ultimate Polish will not have enough abrasives to smooth them out.

Am I completely wrong about ultimate compound leaving microscopic peaks and valleys?

If the finish looks ok to you after using ultimate compound then you can proceed to your wax or sealant of choice. A polish will add the gloss and refine the finish more. You are not using a polish to correct if you have already used a compound.

    This should help you.

That thread was verry helpful but it did not tell me if ultimate compound leaves microscopic scratches. If the paint looks fine doesthat mean there are no microscopic scratches?

It really depends on the paint. Paints can vary greatly in hardness, so while UC may mar or 'scratch' some, it may not to others.

If you're talking about at a microscopic level, then I'd say yes, it does leave microscopic scratches, like I assume any compound or polish would. Heck, if we're talking microscopic, then even lightly wiping a clean surface with a QD would probably leave scratches!

But if you can't actually see them with the naked eye in any lighting, then what does it matter?

I see what your saying yeah I guess air would even cause atomic scratches.

I was concerned because I thought the micro scratches could give dirt, dust, acid rain, etc. A place to damage the clear coat. but if the scratches are smaller than the cocontaminates then it can't settle there.

It's easy to overthink these things.

If it looks great to you after UC, then you can go straight to your LSP. If you think the finish could do with further refining, then you should polish with something like SwirlX or UP, then go to LSP.

Haha yeah auto correct corrected it to cocontaminates and I accidentally bumped the post button.
