  • First time using a rotary (ever) and It's Done.

I will be editing this post as time goes on as you will see the job is not done.

    The products are strictly Meguiar's.

    Makita rotary
    #85 Diamond cut
    #83 duel action cleaner polish
    #82 swirl free polish
I will most likely do a #21 sealer toped with #26 but have not crossed that bridge....yet.

don't know the year...yet but as you can see this is a daily driver..lots of mileage...never seen soap of any sorts and if badly faded.
    BEFORE

This is after doing #85, #83 #82 there is no wax or sealer on the veh.
    AFTER...(so far)
this was done with a whool pad ...(not sure of the #)

I have had such a hard time with #85 and #83 gumming up hopping the rotary all over the place. I ended up wetting the panel's with water and working the product in in till I got the light haze..this seemed to work very well. The speeds on the rotary were between 1 and 3, 1 when the panel was wet and switching up to 2 and then 3 as the product/water dried. also instead of going through my complete supply of Microfiber I washed the panel down with gold class car wash between products and dried with a clean damp microfiber.

MORE TO COME....SO STAY TUNED !!!

The rotary is quite the tool to master, perfection comes with practice, lots of practice!.

    You're on your way!

only had enough time to finish #85ing & #83ing the rest of the truck.

Sorry no pics. (looks more better :-) will start polishing tomorrow after work if the weather holds out.

so far I have at least 8hrs in to this truck.

                Hey Beercan31

Paint like that will take many hours of hard work to remove the oxidation and restore a beautiful finish. From the first pics, you are well on your way to restoring that finish to better than new!!! By the way, 8 hours...that is just the warm up!

                Keep us posted!

Ok this is day 3 as of last night i finished doing the #85 and as I drove past the truck in my neighbor's yard I just about lost it...the whole drivers side of the pick-up bed was full of Swirls/holograms,

so tonight I did a redo on the whole rear section, after that I finished off with #83 DACP sorry no pics my son though it was more important to take the batteries out of the camera when I was not looking so he could play his Game-Boy over his friends house, not a good night to come home late when dad's loaded for bear...but that's another story.

I did get these 2 before I started though.

Ok here's where I did not use a Meguiar's product but I did try to use #85 with a wool pad...nope not to good on rust what I did end up using was Greases Lightning and was surprised to see that it did remove the stain and that's all I was going after.
                  Before

                  After...comming soon
It's 9:00 and I just had enough light to do a quick coat of #21 so you will soon see the finished product.

                    IT's Done...IT's Done...IT's Done...

Finely after about 20 hours of work the neighbor is damn near speechless, He said he had it was detailed 2 years ago but it never looked this good....HMMM so much for me saying it never seen soap...sorry.

                    What I did learn?
                    Lesson 1.
How not to over work your product like#85 and #83...yeh I have read it many a time here before but some times you need to find out for your self "how far is to far" that's why I needed to redo the rear section again the next day. Lesson well learned.

                    Lesson 2.
not to over speed the G100 or over work the gear box...Mine actually got so hot it destroyed the Velcro backing plate, and yes I wrote that correctly the heat was generated from the balancing weight area and traveled down the shaft in the Velcro backing plate and not from the pad in to the blacking plate. I will be needing a new one very soon.

                    Here is the finished job.
The tires were done with Dressing @ a tad bit over a 3 to 1 mix.
The paint was topped with 2 coats of #21 24hrs apart.

The interior was done alsonwith Hyper Dressing @ a tad bit over a 3 to 1 mix. the carpets where done with Oxi-Clean at an above normal mixture and a hot solution.

                    Now for My Questions
                    1. On the bottle of hyper dressing it states "mix #of pumps to 32oz of water" What does a pump measure out to? I'm assuming it's 1oz. at least that's what I mixed it at.....No I did not get a pump with the jug. should of read the jug before I left the store...I guess that's lesson 3.

The lightning was not spectacular slightly over cast sorry for not getting a good sun/reflection shot.

Quick quiestion, can a PC bring back to life a vehicle in that condiditon?

Hey Beercan, very nice, I too noticed that the rotary will break down product very fast. I found that a spray bottle and a little water helps alot. Just don't overdo the water (sling). I found that out the hard way too. I like that you got the door jambs and around the back glass also. Good Job!!

                              And good lessons learned.
