  • Removing old wax, before a clay and wax ?

I know you can add wax over wax. But is there any if even minuscule slight benefit in doing so ?

My car is currently clean and smooth, and well it gets a spritz of D115 pretty much every day, so its getting a continuous level of protection in-between the proper waxes.. and remaining clean and shiny.

Even though it doesn't even really need it (the claying at least), I'm going to clay the car anyway, then give it a new fresh coat of 'proper' wax. Put it down to enjoyment ! Besides the rainy season is about to start over here.

I have some 'new' pre clay cleaning options now that I have bought some D114 & D115. Taking into consideration that car is already spotless, and at its worst a fine layer of dust.

Before hand I'd of washed it down with a bucket, and dried it using a waffle weave water magnet. Its really hard to justify all that now that the car is kept clean on a near enough a daily basis. All this is because I now have various waterless sprays on the ready as soon as i pull into my garage.. Its just too hard to not say no to a clean !!!!

So before the claying, should I go with

1.\ D114 waterless @ 15:1, to remove any previous polishes/wax residue to before going in with the clay bar and a ULW wax

2.\ D114 waterless @ 128:1 which will just remove any small layer of dust that may not even really be present, before going in for a clay then ULW wax.

3.\ D115 waterless @ 8:1, which will make the surface even more slippery before going to it with clay and finally a coat of ULW ?

The ULW will be applied using the MT300. Car does not need any correction, nor does it need a polish, because its white, and already defect free.

I'm guessing its probably 1 or 2, and well even then it doesn't even really matter, as the clay is going to remove most of the old wax anyway. Only reason I can see ever using Option 3 is that it definitely leaves the paintwork smoother than using D114, and maybe that extra lubricity, may slightly help the clay bar process ? Or maybe that works against the claying... Claying will be done using D155 @ 1:1 and the Megs smooth clay bar that comes in the consumer kit. i also have some QD, which i could use instead of the D155 @ 1:1.

Eldorado2k, you need to keep your answers short and less confusing ... , you'll confuse the poor lad. But I agree with your answer.
