  • Distilled water ? Question for the chemists here !

How important is the use of distilled water vs regular water when diluting D155 to a 1:1 for clay lube ?

What about using purified 'drinking' water instead ?

I'd also be needing some to dilute down D115.

Just wondering on how critical it really is ?

Re: Distilled water ? Question for the chemists here !

I use distilled water when diluting D155 for the simple reason that distilled or purified water does not have the mineralization that tap water contains. It's the mineralization that onsets hard water etching on your paint if left to dry. Now obviously you won't be leaving your diluted D155 on your paint to dry, so even if you mixed it with tap water you will still be buffing it dry after you clay. But for me, I like to keep things constant, and developing good detailing habits starts with continuity.

Buy yourself a 5 gallon water jug and go down to your local watermill express. 5 gallons for $1.
