  • Mold on clay after winter storage

I have little black spots on my clay. I am assuming it is mold. It was stored in a container for several months with a screw top (not Meguiar's brand clay or container)) and according to storage instructions, I sprayed a little detailer (Meguiars QW) over the clay and screwed on the top and stored it at room temperature.
What would cause mold to grow? Would the QW cause this? Can't think mold would grow on unused clay. It seems still pliable and useable. Thanks.

I'm pretty sure if the container is substantially bigger than the clay, the bacteria etc in the air trapped in there can cause mould in the right conditions.

Was this the case for you?

We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.

The container wasn't that much larger than the clay, although I did handle the clay to break off about a third of it to use, and put the rest, unused, back into the container. I guess there are mold spores everywhere, in the air, probably on my hands, but thought mold would have to have something to feed upon. I did some searching on the site, and while I did not find anything on clay mold, there was a post or two from people with mold on their pads. So I guess it is not unheard of. Anyway it is still useable, a mild solution of chlorine cleaned it up, and I always have my nano cloth. I was just wondering what to do so this does not happen again. Thanks for your reply.

I keep my clay in a plastic baggie. The baggie molds itself around the clay and seals out the air = no mold
