I was planning on using D115 as a QD and I was wondering if anyone has come up with a good mix ratio? Or am I better off using a true QD? Also, is there any benefit to using distilled water? I don't believe so since I'd be wiping it right off and not letting it dry, but I thought I'd seek some input from those of you that are using D115. Thanks- Supergus

Re: D115 for QD?
Yes, Last Touch is a great QD. You will just have to try it mixed and see if you like it that way. As for using distilled water, that is no doubt better as it would prevent water spots though I bet you wipe it off anyway... It's your call again.

Re: D115 for QD?
I believe he's referring to D115 Rinse Free Express Wash & Wax, not D155 Last Touch.Originally posted by BluelineI own a silver vehicle and a black vehicle owns me. The black one demands attention, washing, detailing, waxing and an occasional dinner out at a nice restaurant. The silver one demands nothing and it looks just fine. I think the black vehicle is taking advantage of me, and the silver car is more my style. We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.

Re: D115 for QD?
Our standard recommendation for using D115 Rinse Free Express Wash & Wax as a rinseless wash is a 4:1 dilution ratio - meaning 4 parts water to 1 part D115. In very humid areas we recommend diluting the product further, as far as 20:1 but, of course, this will decrease the amount of polymer protection being left behind.
As a QD substitute, you can vary the dilution ratio to fit your needs with regard to gloss, stretching your dollars, etc.
From personal experience, I can tell you that several of us here at Meguiar's have moved to D115 for routine, daily wipe downs of both our personal cars and company vehicles. We tend to use an 8:1 dilution ratio and at home I mix up a full gallon in an empty bottle of drinking water (I use regular tap water for mixing my D115) and pour off into a pump spray bottle as needed. The pump sprayer means I'm not constantly pulling the trigger on a typical trigger sprayer - just pump up the bottle, and give a single steady pull of the trigger to spray product onto an entire panel. I then use multiple towels to wipe the car down, usually an initial folded towel for the first wipe, and a second folded towel for the final wipe. I'll work around the car like this, folding that first towel frequently and not worrying about how wet it's getting - that second towel finishes the drying if I'm using extra product due to how dirty the car is. If the first towel gets too wet, I'll toss it into the laundry basket and move the second towel to initial wipe duties, and introduce a third towel to the process. On just a lightly dusty car I generally can get away with just two towels. If I've been travelling a lot and my car has spent a lot of time at the airport and I haven't had time to wash it, then D115 gets heavier use as a waterless wash and I'll use 4 or 5 towels on the car. If it's really bad, however, I go with a rinseless wash process using D114 as I always have that mixed up in a bucket with a gamma seal on it.Michael Stoops

Michael,
thanks for your response. I have a gallon of D115 so I was hoping that I could use it as a QD.

Re: D115 for QD?
I will gladly Echo Professor Von Stoops'words on D115 here.
It so happens that I had no idea of his dilution preferences and when we compared notes we found 1:8 as the ideal dilution ration. I just happen to push the boundaries of many products to test their capabilities and our findings happened to coincide.
D115 is a GREAT Waterless Wash and QD, its lubricity factor and ability to encapsulate dust/light dirt and hold it to be removed gently and efficiently with a clean microfiber cloth is SUCH a time saving commodity when detailing. When paired with an effective double microfiber "washing" system, its a dangerous dangerous weapon against vehicle dirt.
You can thoroughly wash your car in 15 min or less once you become proficient at the process -- WITHOUT PULLING OUT ALL THE GEAR ASSOCIATED WITH A TRADITIONAL WASH! ► ► EASYMODE!!
And, more importantly, and you don't waste water (ALWAYS GREAT IN California) or get wet!Christopher Brown | OCDCarCare Los Angeles - Auto Detailing Services & Training Courses
