  • Are We Overpolishing The Paint?

I thought this was worth sharing....

I made me twice think about how I go about prepping my paint.

I saw that on Autopia a while back. Good article. People seem to have a tendency to grab the axe when a butter knife will do. I like to give my paint a light cleaning every few months to get all the wax off. Though I am tempted to always grab 80, a light paint cleaner does the trick and leaves the clear coat.

Folks, Here's and article on over-polishing by David Bynon from Better Car Care: http://www.bettercarcare.com/articles.php?articleId=57 I think that I should be glad that most of the time I use NXT Tech Wax as a one step product. I use it every four to six weeks on my big Black Hemi. I have no evidence of swirls or

There is one thing that I never was accused of..............And that was being fast.

That said, I dusted off the Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner Thursday.

DCPC, #81, & NXT looks pretty good.

Hey, I just found out about #21 a few days ago!

Maybe an idea for the chemists at Meguiars. A formula with chemical cleaners to clean the paint only, no abrasives, but still has the rich look that #80 provides. It would make for a nice quick paint cleanser and rich polish in one and make the paint ready for a LSP of choice, and leaves the clearcoat in tact.
          Just an idea.

            Hi bluemoon,

It's already available, in fact it has been available for over 20 years, it's called Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner.

Ooooooops my bad learned something new today. I thought that DCPC was a cleaner only and needed to have a pure polish applied after it to get that rich look.

The Deep Crystal system is really mild - which is why it's on the consumer line.

I especially favor DC#1 because it doesn't have abrasives. I use it to strip off wax and light oxidation just before polishing.
