  • Am I missing any supplies?

I have been cleaning cars for a few year, but have always just used whatever products were the cheapest. I have been interested in upgrading my supplies for the past few weeks and researched what I need, and this is the list I came up with. My questions for you are am I missing anything? Should I switch out some products for different ones? Do I have multiple products that do the same thing? Any tips/recommendations? One more question- How does the pad connect to the backing plate connect to the DA?

I'm no pro, but I'm sure most will say the supplies you get will depend on your intentions. Are you going to do this full time? Focus on maintenance washing? Mobile? Paint Correction? For me, I started for myself, for my cars. Now I'm open to doing jobs for friends, co-workers, and referrals. My supplies have grown in size to accommodate additional needs, i.e., I'm buying interior detailing supplies now.

As far as having products that do similar work, yes, it's possible. I have several car soaps, a few different rinseless wash brands, several waxes, and even compound/polishes. Realistically, I didn't need them. But I have a problem

To answer another one of your questions: the pads attach to the backing plate by way of the hook-n-loop system (think Velcro), while the backing plate generally gets screwed onto the machine (the bolt part of it is permanently attached to the plate, and u use the wrench included with the polisher to tighten it, at least in my experience with the PorterCable).

Lastly, you might get more feedback if you listed the items, rather than using links to them. I clicked on one, and right away didn't want to click on the rest. For example, just a simple list like:

    Harbor Freight 6" DA
    Megs #26 wax
    Megs #205 polish

Good luck, man. And be careful not to get too caught up in it!!! (keep it simple)

I clicked on all the links.. Your order is fine. its all going to come down to a preference thing. I like chenille Wash Mitts vs the Meguiars one.

I would drop the Endruance Tire Gel and replace with Jet Black Endura Tire Shine coat kit.. even if you coat your tires 3 times a year. Its still a good deal.

Its nice to have 2 type of waxes. Never know if you want to use the sealant or have the Wax.

I don't know much about Harbor Freight tool. I purchased a Griots Garrage DA.\

Never tried the show Car Glaze. figured a good finishing polish like M205 or Ultimate Polish made it shiny enough.

One last note. Find products you like and try to get a bigger bottle of that product. Ie Meguiars Shampoo PLus=Meguiars Wash and Wax.

If it was me I would just pick up the walmart bundle and the other miscellaneous items (grit guards, wash mit etc...). Colinite is a hybrid with very good durability but ultimate wax is decent as well. Are you looking for a carnuaba? Another sealant?

I was looking for a sealant that lasts longer than UW.

How long does UW last for you?

Stay tuned to MOL, right now I'm finishing up a long-term test on Ultimate Paste Wax. It was last applied in late fall and the car hasn't been touched (at all) since then. The only "wash" it has received was when it was down for a month awaiting repair and got covered with about 6" of snow, then it warmed up and the snow melted and ran off. It is still beading some what when it rains, but you can see it's covered in dirt and grime from winter driving, which inhibits beading/sheeting.

I do not know about those other wax products you bought... I have heard great things about Collinite but never used it.

Personally I think the Ultimate Wax Paste is great. I think the liquid is not much better than the Tech Wax 2.0, which is a BARGAIN by ANYONE's Measurement!

Your list is great, but you WILL need quality polishes! I know Meguiars makes a LOT of them and they are very high quality and economical.

I know less about 3M, but I know they are also great quality (more expensive, but probably not better); many professional body shops use 3M though they arguably do not all turn out the very best work though it is the technique not the products that is the problem.. Another superb polish is Menzurna, but is imported, even more money, and nobody on this site is going to likely know the best combinations/recommendations.

Personally, I would just stick with the Meguiar's polishes/compounds at least as a start.

I know nothing about that DA, but make sure it is NOT a forced rotation if you are just starting out.
