Hey guys, I was just wondering, why is it recommended to wash glass towels separate from the rest of your towels? Is this important? If so, why?
Thx in advance.

I wash all together using Chemical Guys MF detergent and machine dry. That includes MF plush, MF waffle weave drying, bulk short knapp MF that use for "dirty work" like jams and wheels. I lump them into a box for a few days until I get enough to make a load, and they go into the wife's $1500 front loader :-)
@Larry0071. So you see a difference using the microfiber detergent compared to regular stuff? I've noticed lately that my towels still have a faint smell of products after the wash & dry. [especially D120 & Ultimate Protectant]
I currently use sun free & clear liquid/warm water/low heat dryer.
I want to upgrade to a better soap.
I ended up buying Wolfgang microfiber cleaner some time last year when it was on sale and it cleaned my MF's better but it also made them retain their softness than when using Tide. I have since used it and picked up Detailer's Pro microfiber cleaner and it works pretty good. Wolfgang worked a little better.
I have heard some guys say that 3D Towel Kleen works really well for cleaning microfibers. The price seems pretty good at $18 for a gallon.

I really like this detergent. I decided to try out the Griots MF cleaner after I had ran out and did not like it. Probably because the directions call for adding it WITH laundry detergent which in my opinion does not thoroughly clean nor keep MF soft and new.
I've since switched back to CG and wash all my Supreme Shine towels with it.
Right on. Yea I wouldn't think I'd like an add on to regular detergent either. Lol.
That 3D Kleen sounds pretty good from the little I've read so far. I deffinetly want something that's stronger than what I've been using without having to pre treat with other stuff. Washing towels is something I'd like to simplify. Thanks for the suggestion, Guz.
I went ahead and ordered the 3D Kleen. At $26 including shipping, it better work so good that even my cat won't be able to tell which towels were used for what! Lol.
I'm excited to try it. I'm going to re wash all my towels, even though they're currently 'clean'
My towels were being washed with Tide, and while they appeared clean they were not as absorbing as I felt they should be and they had a sort of "crunchy" feel to them. Using the chemical guys, they seem to be softer, more easily absorb right from the start and generally feel less crunchy, like it rinses from the fibers better.
Maybe it's mental, but I think they perform better using this product than using regular Tide Ultra.
I will say that on my dirty MF, Tide Ultra removed more stains. But I really don't care because the stains on my dirty MF have no effect on me or the kind of things I'm doing with them.
Go to Costco and buy the Free and Clear Kirkland detergent. Honestly the brand is of no importance, just make sure the detergent is free of dyes or fragrances.
Separate towels according to type:
Interior and windows together.
Compound and Polish together
Wash and Drying together.. etc
they KEY is that whatever is washed together has relatively the same level of soiling. You wouldnt want grease to mix with final wiping towels and muck them up. Also, take into consideration that, if you have towels separated by color for use that certain towels will bleed and can discolor others.
I wash all towels with this on medium heat water, heavy cycle (longer duration), and SUPER SPIN. Place a cup of white distilled vinegar into the final rinse cycle to remove all detergent residue on second wash.
HE (high Effeciency) machines i wash twice. I have tested washing once and have found some residue still in microfiber (since its best job is picking up and holding onto particulates) after the first wash across about 4-5 different machines, so the second wash really satisfies my OCD.
TOP LOADING machines still wash twice, but i do a prewash on first wash (ESPECIALLY ON DIRTY LOADS) and i add a half a cup of concentrated APC to the mix to boost cleaning power.
DRY on LOWEST SETTING for 30-40 min (depending on size of load) and DONE!!
While warm i fold them and put them into airtight containers to ensure no dust particles can be embedded into the towels.
