    Re: New guy lost

No, im saying the opposite was true for me. I washed with the gold. Then I clay bared. After that I used the cleaner wax and it was amazing. Next, I waxed with the ultimate and it kinda dulled it down. Could have been the sun was going down.

I'm in Pittsburgh PA, so I deal with winters, -10 degree cold, salt and de-icing chemicals just like you.

Before winter his you, around late November I would recommend doing a good wash with hot water and whatever car wash you like. Hit it with clay bar, and follow with a good synthetic wax like mentioned above. The current champion product by meguiars is the ultimate line, so the ultimate wax is going to be your longest lasting synthetic.

I then like to watch for those special days that come every 2 or 3 weeks that go above freezing and I'll man up and go wash the car in the driveway like normal, dry it and go over the entire car including the jams with ultimate quick wax. This will essentially restore the just waxed look and feel. Make sure you do the trim, paint, glass, headlights, and every single surface accessible with the ultimate quick wax.

This makes the car shed water and salt easier and also makes scraping the thick ice from the glass much easier. Snow removal is easier because it will not bond well to the slick surface.

For where you are now, pretend it's November and get at it! You'll use the ultimate quick wax as your booster/topper after every wash.

While the ultimate quick wax isn't intended to be a stand alone wax due to the short service life when compared to the ultimate wax, if used every couple weeks after your wash, it works amazingly well and will have you shining and beading water like your a car waxing fool. I have some friends that only use the ultimate quick wax and with very regular use, it works tons better than the nothing that most people do.
Doing the best I can with what I've got.

Thank you all for te replies I really appreciate it. As far as the dull look after using the ultimate, it could have just been me, that why I was asking. I got the car all masked off, and then it looked like it was going to rain. By the time I was done with the cleaner wax, I thought it was going to poor for sure, so I was in a hurry when I applied the ultimate. Maybe I didn't buff it enough or the sun was hiding behind clouds I'm not sure.

            Wax shouldn't need much buffing.

Might be using to much if seems like buffing.

Cleaner/wax can use a bit more to get the cleaning action.
