  • Pads for UP

I'm outfitting my arsenal for spring detail. I've got a 2011 MX-5 with very good paint. I've got UP on hand but am torn about which pads to compliment the UP. I do not want to get too aggressive as the paint is in great shape with light swirls, and I'm beginning with a DA polisher. I've been looking at Hex Logic pads, but LC pads seem to be popular around here. I'd be looking for pads to use with the UP, and pads for wax. It seems that LC offers several different lines of pads too.

You also have the new thin foam pads

Perfect Clarity Headlight Restoration Kit, Soft Buff D/A Foam Discs & Backing Plates, New Rotary Pads & Backing Plates, New Car Scent Protectant, Dub Car Wash, Whole Car Air Refresher Odor Eliminators, MT300 Dual Action Polisher, Paint Protect, Ultimate Black Plastic Restorer, M317 Unigrit Sand & Clean, M305 Ultra Durable Finishing Glaze

As far as Lake Country I have used the flat pads and the hydro tech pads with lots of success. What DA are you using?

The blue hex logic is my favorite pad to use with Ultimate Polish.

I also like lake country's green ccs, which is very similar to the blue hex in foam cell structure (70 ppi blue hex / 75 ppi green ccs).

I've also used Ultimat Polish with both the blue and yellow Rupes microfiber pads for phenomenal cutting results. The blue Rupes with UP on the PC 7424xp stunned the daylights out of me.

Another pad that l love with Ultimate Polish is the blue lake country ccs. Great gloss with that combo.

Ultimate Polish is a very versatile product, and is one of my absolute favorites.

If you want less cut than the blue hex / green ccs will give you, then look at the black hex / blue ccs.

The black hex / blue ccs are also great for applying waxes as well.

I'd be using a PC 7424xp. Boy, the pad options are dizzying!

I can't comment on the lake pad, but the megs thin yellow is a good pad for light/medium polishing and as I found out applying a wax/sealant.

For Ultimate Polish I use LC 5 inch white flat pads on my 7424.
You can just vary the speed and pressure for the amount of correction.
Either way, UP will make your car shine
The gloss is incredible with this combination.

I use a black LC for wax.
I have used the old Meguiars soft buffs but not the new line.
The new Meguiars pads are supposed to be stellar

The yellow polishing disc works great for light to moderate defects. I have not used the LC blue but I have used the LC white and it to is a good pad. The benefit of the new thin foam discs is less pad rotation with more power transferred from the tool to achieve better results.

Don't you mean the new thin discs rotate more than the older thicker pads?

Not only will our new thin foam discs work great on your Porter Cable, they'll pretty much transform the feel of the tool. UP is very mild in and of itself, so pairing it with our DFP5 yellow foam polishing disc will yield light to moderate defect removal, depending on tool speed, pressure, arm speed across the paint, how long you work it, etc. We make these thin foam discs in both 5" and 6" sizes, but definitely stick with the 5" size on a DA like the Porter Cable; you'll get max power transfer, a more balanced feel that makes for smoother operation, etc.
