  • What DA and pads should I get?

I'm a bit confused about all the different types of supplies and equipment. What DA polisher should I get and what's the differences? I'm looking for one that I can use for pretty much everything. Also, what types of pads are there and which one goes with which products?
Thanks in advance for all your help.

If you are looking for Meguiar's products then these would be them.

DA. You can still find the G110 V2. The MT300 is the newest DA from Meguiar's.

Perfect Clarity Headlight Restoration Kit, Soft Buff D/A Foam Discs & Backing Plates, New Rotary Pads & Backing Plates, New Car Scent Protectant, Dub Car Wash, Whole Car Air Refresher Odor Eliminators, MT300 Dual Action Polisher, Paint Protect, Ultimate Black Plastic Restorer, M317 Unigrit Sand & Clean, M305 Ultra Durable Finishing Glaze

Pads & Backing plate. 5" would be the recommended size.

Here's my review on the new thin pads.

    This is essentially the concept:

    Cutting disc = compound

    Polishing disc = polishing

    Finishing Disc = wax/sealant

Right now I'm thinking I want to try ultimate compound, polish, and wax, and mirror glaze show car glaze and synthetic or polymer sealant. That should cover most things, right? The MT300 is a bit expensive for me right now since I'm used to just buying the cheapest stuff, so $359 is more than I can spend.

Re: What DA and pads should I get?

Most online retailers are selling the MT300 for about $220.

If you are looking for other DA's that priced lower than this you have the Porter Cable 7424XP, Griots Garage, Meguiar's G110 V2 and the Harbor Freight. The PC has the least amount of power but it still works well. The Harbor Freight model is the cheapest and it's decent. What ever DA you get just get the a 5" backing plate and 5" pads.

Check out ADS. He has some good kits on the MT300 as well as the new pads and backing plate.

With the products you are looking to purchase.

New Thin Burgundy cutting disc = UC

New Thin Yellow Polishing disc = UP

New Thin Black Finishing disc = Any wax or sealant

What kind of car are you working on? M7 show car glaze is beneficial on single stage paint and not so much on clear coats. UP has enough polishing oils to give you that gloss. As far as your protection you have a few options. You have the following dealants NXT, M21, Ultimate Wax and the new paint protect 365. Paint Protect offers the longest protection while the others range from 4-6 months but will add more shine than Paint Protect.

Consider this kit. It has everything you need.

Re: What DA and pads should I get?

Mostly cars with a clear coat, but I know that I'm going to do dad's Torino in the spring that has single stage paint. My understanding is that I need either a wax or a sealant. Is there any advantage of one or the other? So my order should be clay, UC, UP, and a sealant/wax?

Re: What DA and pads should I get?

For the Torino depending on how oxidized the paint is then M7 would be fine. The advantage of a sealant is durability and the advantage of a carnauba wax is the look it offers. Some use a sealant/wax combo to get the best of both worlds.

I would say your order should be:

            1. Wash
            2. Clay
            3. Test spot with the least aggressive combination
            4. UC (based on the test spot)
            5. UP
            6. Wax, sealant or both
            7. Maintain with ultimate quik wax

If you have not seen this. Might be worth getting this.
