  • Discolored Microfiber Towels. Why?

I bought two of each: water magnet and supreme shine towels. So I washed my car using Meguiar's Gold class wash + Meguiar's water magnet + Meguiar's Microfiber Towels + Meguiar's wash mitt. After washing my car, I put my microfiber towels in the washing machine. For some reason my towels came out discolored after I put them in the laundry machine. I used regular powdered detergent in the washing machine to wash my microfiber. I did not mix my laundry or use any fabric softener.

Does anyone know why they discolored after one wash in the washing machine? Are these safe to use on my car again? Or is it normal for them to discolor? See pictures below.

That's really weird. Can't say we've ever seen this happen without something else being mixed in with the towels. Sure, some discoloration over time and many, many washes is bound to happen just as it would with any other towel/garment/whatever. But this much color change after a first time light use and a simple wash? Honestly, we would expect this if you tossed in a new black towel from our Ultimate Wax - in fact, this exact color is what we see when that happens.

That said, even if you do mix in one or two new black towels from UW and it discolors a Supreme Shine or Water Magnet, it has no negative effects on the performance or usability of those towels. It only changes their appearance. Still, it's very strange to see this happen for, apparently, no reason at all.

I'm no woman so no washing machine expert. lol (pardon the jokes) (receives slap from wife !!) but my guess is something dark was put in there with the wash, that you may not of noticed. perhaps a dark sock that has bled some of its color.. I've seen it happen to some of my lighter clothing.

I have some orange edgeless towels that I got from the rag company for when I rinseless wash. I accidentally threw those in with a couple supreme shines. Well the orange bled into them even after washing the edgeless towels prior to using them. The supreme shines still function but our now this funky looking color .

I apologize... I forgot to mention that I DID throw in the black microfiber towels that came with ULW. I guess that explains the discoloration... the microfiber towels still feel soft as the new ones I have.
