  • Q: SS paint process

    I have a 90's Jaguar lined up.
The owner wants the paint to shine like new. No Problem.
My dilemma is, should I first condition the paint with M7,
Leaving it set overnight before using M205?
Or should I skip M7 and go straight to M205?
I have yet to inspect the paint but wanting to get a good game plan in place.
    Thank you for your advice.

90's paint probably isnt that dried out to require #7 before hand, unless really left outside. Maybe after #205 if you wanted.

It is rather difficult to give any sort of recommendation without having seen the paint, so it could go either way. Paint from the '90s, even if it's single stage, is not the same as single stage lacquers from the '40s - '60s. Are you sure that it's even single stage to begin with? Clear coat was pretty common in the '90s so it could indeed be cleared. As always, we recommend a full hands on evaluation of the paint, and be prepared with a few different products/pads on hand to do a test spot or two (or three) to really determine the proper course of action.
