  • New car Detailing - Experts (Gurus) Advice Needed

    Hello Experts!!

I was lurker of this forum for a while and have used Meguairs products in the past. Recently I bought 2015 BMW X5. Car was shipped in enclosed truck from east coast to west coast.
Now I want to pamper my X5 with Meguairs products. Before I start, I need experts advice to make sure my steps, products I'm choosing to detail are correct.

Pls. review and advice on below steps along with recommended products in each step. Thanks for your advice!!

    Steps:

    1. Wash
    - Pre-rinse with pressure washer
    - Use foam gun to loosen dirt
    - Rinse with pressure washer again
    - Wash with 2 Bucket method with Grit Guard
    - Use Meguiar's Deep Crystal Car Wash soap for 2BM

    2. Prep
    - Clay with Meguiar's Smooth Surface Clay Kit

    3. Polish
    - Since its new car, do I still need to do polish before wax?
    - Use Meguiar's Ultimate Polish

    4. Wax
    - Use Meguiar's Ultimate Liquid Wax

    Questions

    - Since its new car, do I need to apply polish before wax?
    - What does it mean when people say my car paint is sealed or sealant is apply onto clear coat? Is it same meaning of applying wax to the car? If not, which Meguiar's product I can use for sealant?
    - Is it safe to use Meguiar's Ultimate Liquid Wax on Chrome Trim around windows, Roof rails in Satin Aluminum, BMW Kidney Grill, and other black vinyl plastic trim on the car?
    - What should be the dilution ratio for soap? I saw on bimmerforum someone use the Meguiar car wash soap and got streaks on windshield. Just making sure I’m not using too much soap to begin with.
    - Anything else I need to clean the glass – windshield, door window etc. I saw some recommendations to use Ultimate Quik Wax on exterior glass. Rear windows of X5 are factory tinted.
    - For Wheels – I plan to use Meguiar's Hot Rims All Wheel Cleaner. Any recommendations?
    - I’m going to use DA Power System for polish and wax.

    I really appreciate your advice!
    Thanks

System looks good, though you may enjoy the Gold Class Wash once your DC Soap runs out. And 2 coats of wax is always best.

    1. Dont have to, but a good idea. Or at least a cleaner/wax first. Then just one coat of regular wax.

    2. In most cases, they are just interchanging the words. A sealant can mean a synthetic product, and those can be a bit more durable, like the Ult. Wax.

    3. Yeah... just remember applying very thin.

    4. 1 ounce per gallon of water.

    5. Well, the Meguiars glass cleaners are always good. You can clay the glass. And i always like rainX, but some people use wax.

    6. Just good quality brushes to go with it.

    - And Ult. Quick Wax for after future washes.

Made a slight tweak to step 1. No sense in rinsing off twice. This will save you some time. Murr answered the rest of yourquestions.

      1. Wash
      - Pre-rinse with pressure washer
      - Foam the car
      - Wash with 2 Bucket method with Grit Guard
      - Rinse with pressure washer again

      -Flood the surface and dry

      2. Prep - This is good

      3. Polish
      - Since its new car, do I still need to do polish before wax? Hard to say. You will have to judge the paint if there are any defects or if you want to clean the paint and add gloss. The polish is what adds the gloss. Are you working by hand or machine?

      4. Wax - This looks good. Ultimate wax is a great product

Hot Rims All Wheel & Tire can be used to clean tires as well so don't forget to dress them.

      What color is the car?

        Thank you Murr, Appreciate it!
Since I already have GC wash and Ulti. Quick wax from my previous car. I will use those left over on bimmer as well.

        Thanks Guz,
I'll be using DA Power system to do the polish and waxing. I got all the stuff yesterday, just waiting for foam gun and nice weather in northwest. It's raining since last week
I shipped the car in enclosed truck and all the factory cover was on the car. There are no defect on the paint. It just need wash, clay and wax. Since I already bought Ultimate polish, I will use it prior to waxing.

Here is the picture of car. It's Glacier Silver Metallic.
