  • DA Plate and pad sizes

I am looking at purchasing a used DA and was curious as to size of backing plate and pads. Mainly I want to know if I have a 7 in plate should I go with 7.5 in pad or 8 in? What is the minimum buffer zone between edge of the plate and the edge of the pad?

Secondary question, what is the best way to detail around emblem letters?

For a da, 5" plate, and 5.5" pads are the best way to optimize the buffing action of your machine. That being said, I keep 4, and 6.5" pads, and their corresponding backing plates on hand in the event I have larger, or smaller areas to take care of.

I personally use Hex Logic, and Buff and Shine pads, but Meguiars had recently introduced their new line of foam discs, which look very exciting!

I use q-tips on emblems with Ultimate Compound and/or Ultimate polish.

Our new thin foam discs will take any DA and make it operate smoother and more efficiently. That might sound like a bold statement, but seriously, give them a try and you'll see. The first time we ran these on a G110v2 it was a revelation! The thin profile does a great job of transmitting energy from the tool to the paint, and the lighter weight plays great with most any tools counterweight.
