Different product lines?

I've found that the meguiar's company has many different lines of products which include: nxt generation, gold class, proffessional, medallion, consumer, and many others. Each contain cleaners, polishes, and waxes. Is there any main differences between the different lines of products that all contain the same products of cleaners, polishes, and waxes?

This is a common question that I'm sure has been answered somewhere in the Detailing 101 forum. The quick answer is no, the products are not all the same, merely in different packaging.

It's important to note that Meguiar's history is in formulating products for professional craftsmen that work full-time in the re-finishing industry and at the assembly line of auto manufactures. It wasn't until 1973 that Meguiar's introduced their first products formulated for enthusiasts.

One detailers observations/opinion....

Moving from the Consumer line that includes: NXT generation, gold class, deep crystal and so on all are great product and get the job done no problem easy to use and you are not going to have any products that damage a finish in the wrong hands...

Now to the professional line I feel this is where things can be fine tuned much more, if you need something just a little more/less aggressive no problem change products and you are there. Also IMO you can take your finish up another notch with product from the pro line.

Not sure where Medallion fits in... I think they have been discontinued.

I have had great results from all Meguiars products I use a combination of consumer and pro products to get the look I want. Like Mike said they are all different products, I have yet to find one that is both in the pro line AND consumer line AND are the same product.

a little OT: Mike... Do any of the consumer line products contain diminishing abrasives?

That's off the top of my head but I think I got them all...

so basically the products contain all the same ingrediants in most respects except the professional line includes more powerful and concentrated solutions.

No, the ingredients are also different. There are many different types and levels of diminishing abrasives. Each product has a unique characteristic that separates itself from other Meguiar's products.

Sorry for the confusion when I said

I didn't mean they were all the same just different levels of aggressiveness. I just meant the pro line seemed more flexible in the way you can use it, just my opinion.

I think that it's important to note that the consumer products are much safer. The chance of doing expensive damage through lack of experience is generally nil. But you can cause some serious problems with the professional line if you don't know what you are doing.

And even innocent products like #7 or #81 require learning a skill to use easily, let alone picking up #83. Professional products don't only mean professional strength, they mean "not compromised for ease of use due to lack of experience". That doesn't mean that they're hard to use, but that they do have a learning curve.

Medallion PPP and PPC, kinda in the middle. The Medallion line isn't very big, so they're a non-issue, IMO. MPPC is like Deep Crystal Step 1 but about half again stronger, I'd say. It's good stuff, the best paint cleaner ever made. MPPP has been overtaken by NXT from below and #21 from above; no place for this product, I don't think.
